At the beginning of this decade
Did you ever imagine we'd see such an exceptionally gifted, talented, inspirational, visionary and wonderful President in the White House?

I didn't. I didn't think I'd see an African-American President in my lifetime (and I'm 28!). And not in my wildest dreams could I have conjured up a President like the one we have now. It was just beyond my realms of imagination and I'm a very creative person

This decade has for the most part being a neverending nightmare for me politically, professionally and personally. But I'm so glad we're ending it on a high note and that, with Obama in charge, I have so much hope and optimism for the next decade. The nightmare is at last ending

Thank you Mr President. Yes we can!

1. Never thought
it would come to be in my lifetime either. And I'm 60. My dad is 90 and was over the moon with joy to have lived to see it.

I'm so proud of our President. I couldn't stand the pressure he's under for 5 minutes, yet he handles it with grace and quiet strength.

2. Happy New Year to you and yours RFKHumphreyObama
Not sure what your details are but advice from someone who was 28 once and who is 20 years ahead of you: find the things there are to enjoy about every minute of it, even if it doesn't seem so good, because you don't get any of it back.

Life is good.

4. No, I didn't. I appreciate how smart he is and how level headed he is.
And I appreciate that he actually tries to DO things. Most people of his intelligence would be content to rake in profits from their books and from academia.

He's practical and he is trying to move the ball forward. And he knew going in that it would be difficult and at times messy. He was prepared for the onslaught from all sides. What astounds me is that he felt strongly enough about this country to run for President, even knowing the criticism that would be heaped upon him.

6. For years I have been less than thrilled with my Democratic choice
Mondale- You have to be kidding me

Dukakis- Ditto

Clinton- I liked him, even with his character flaws. Not happy that he seemed to generate some intense hatred.

Gore- Nice man but didn't have what you would call a commanding presense

Kerry- zzzzzzzzzzz

Obama- Wow! A brilliant man who is capable of inspiring others. A pragmatic man who cares about people and wants to improve the nation.

Never thought I would ever be able to vote for a candidate I could be excited about, until Barack Obama.

13. I could go for an Al Gore encore
after Obama's eight years. Gore's not holding back much these days. He won the last one, he could do it again.

And wouldn't that start 'sploding heads all over goptown!

7. That's a good perspective
RFKHumphreyObama. I only got into politics in 2000(later in life) and got a computer so I could find a place like DU to work together to kick the coup out of our government and it took 8 years.

It looks like you came to DU when I did and must have also had a name change over the years.

We are most certainly ending it on a high note because we're dealing in reality now..and that's reason enough to celebrate:party::kick::fistbump:

8. We are indeed living in historical times
I never thought I'd see the day in my lifetime either. Now we're finally starting the process of reforming healthcare. Good times. :)

10. It is quite amazing....
I'm in my early 40's and never, ever cast a vote with more enthusiasm.

"This decade has for the most part being a neverending nightmare for me politically, professionally and personally."

Ditto!!

I grew up on the southside of Chicago and that makes me even more confident in this president. I just feel like he will do what's right for this country. It would have been so easy for the President and his wife to have used their money for a mansion in the burbs and never looked back. I think they are where they are for a reason. I couldn't handle it for five minutes!

I'm the exact same age as the Pres (ok, I'm 2 days older :7).
I've seen a lot in the last 48 years and I can't wait to see what the next few years will bring with this wonderful, intelligent man in charge.

Happy New Year to everyone!

12. Well, Kids--I'm 67 and I'm just as thrilled as you are. I worked my tail off for
Obama (as I'm sure many of you did) and it was (and still is) a glorious victory. He impresses me daily.

Thank goodness for this group!

and that he will prove his critics wrong.
No, he won't be perfect, but he'll end up
being one of the greatest Presidents there ever was....
and a Black one at that!

But some folks are slow,
and have yet to figure out
what "WE" means.
