Let's organize - No more posting in GDP!
I remember a time when DU was nice! When you got to gang up on the Republicans and conservatives, and you only argued about things like Nader and Religion.

It's ugly out there now, and I don't want to spend my time arguing about Wright, Ferraro, and other non-issues. We should make this group what DU should be, getting behind our nominee and discussing the positive things he does and the negative (or even positive) things the other candidate - McCain - does.

I'm hungry.

David

1. Please forgive me ~ I broke my promise
I go over to visit because I can't recommend here and I start responding.

I will try my best to do better.

2. I'm kind of a chicken
About going in there and posting much. But I am so proud of all the people who take up for Obama with swift and sensible arguments against all the nonsensical and hateful posts I see posted about him in GDP. I am a huge fan of a lot of you guys and gals in here. :loveya:

3. I think we need to post on GDP, but agree 100% on your description
It is important to refute the garbage, because it is there. Maybe a solution is to look and see if the content has been refuted already in the comments already there - and respond only when the defense is not yet there - especially if solid information is available. (Yeah - I know I think this and then respond emotionally to some of the trash - completely the opposite of what I intellectually think is better.)

We all know who the worst of the people baiting us are - and they win something if we sink to their level. The fact is the small number of neutral people can see them for who they are - especially if they actually have Hillaryis44 signatures.

5. :) I don't really have a probelm with posting in GDP, it's just annoying when someone posts good
Obama news only to have it ridiculed and brought down into a mud fight. I think it's cool that we have this place where we can actually talk positively about our candidate without worrying about someone coming in and saying:

"But he was his *SPIRITUAL ADVISOR FOR 2 DECADES*"

or some other lame assed comment about Obamessiah. and get us all riled up.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

David

7. I agree with you there - but I assume there may be more people
reading than posting. More importantly, at this point there are likely few people posting who are not aligned to one candidate or the other. It makes Obama look good, when we post real good things that he did - the nasty responses can't change that. If all they can do is respond that we are Obamatrons - they look kind of silly. Not to mention as the threads bog down with these - all they are really doing is pushing the substantive story up.

I think we can make a difference, but only because there are good Obama facts we can bring to the attention of some people who don't know them. No one will change there opinion because of name calling.

4. I'm going to keep posting the Rasmussen poll there
And occasionally replying to reasonable or interesting or absurdly wrong posts. Other than that, I don't think I ever have posted much in GD:P.

I remember it as a more interesting place and wish it would become that again.

Now, I do have to say that, back when Edwards was in the race and I was one of his supporters, I remember some pretty unpleasant attacks from Obama supporters. But I forgive you all. Not because of Easter -- I'm an atheist and detest all religions -- but because I'm a morally superior chap. I try not to display that too much in GD:P, though.

6. Somethin's happening over there...
Maybe it's the "let it sink" campaign--not responding to flamebait. Maybe it's that HRC supporters listening to the media's change in tone--that Obama is the frontrunner and HRC won't win--or has a 10% chance.

Maybe it was The Speech.

Maybe it was seeing how Obama can weather the storm and come back again while still maintaining his integrity.

Maybe somebody higher up has called them off.

Maybe it was Bill Richardson to laid the final straw on the camel's back.

In any event--things are better over there in the last few days. A definite improvement. I've taken all my Ignores off and it's still not bad.

Perhaps we've finally turned a corner here at DU. I'd say it's worth going back--as long as we can maintain our cools, refuse to respond to and kick those negative threads, and add to a civil discourse to show them (HRC followers) that Obama supporters are good and decent people (for the most part--lol).
