Neil Abercrombie running on Hope & Change is the next Gov of Hawai'i!!
Embracing President Obama who was on our TV with an awesome ad for Abercrombie. We're too smart for those lying republicons here on the Islands. B-)

<Snip>

Neil Abercrombie, who evolved from a fiery Vietnam War protester to a respected Democrat in Congress, was elected governor of Hawaii tonight on a message of change after eight years of Republican rule at Washington Place.

Abercrombie easily defeated Lt. Gov. James Duke Aiona, the Republican, to become the seventh governor since statehood. He is expected to sworn-in to replace Gov. Linda Lingle on Dec. 6.

The combustible liberal overcame doubts about his lack of chief executive experience to sweep to dominating victories over former

Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the primary and Aiona in the general election. Abercrombie led in all public polls taken since January.

With most of the vote counted tonight, Abercrombie was leading Aiona 58 percent to 41 percent.

An Abercrombie victory gives Democrats control of Washington Place and the state Legislature. Lingle was the first Republican governor in 40 years when she was elected in 2002 and she held the office for two four-year terms.

Abercrombie and former Democratic Party of Hawaii chairman and state lawmaker Brian Schatz, his lieutenant governor running mate, raised their hands in victory before several hundred cheering supporters at the Abercrombie campaigns election night party at the old CompUSA building on Ala Moana Boulevard.

At Dole Cannery, where Republicans were gathering for their party, a hush swept through the crowd as the results were posted on large screens showing Aiona trailing. But some tried to put a positive spin on the initial numbers.

We're looking forward to the very last printout, said Jonah Kaauwai, the state GOP chairman.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, said voters sensed that Abercrombie would do a better job than Aiona. We had a strong governor (in Lingle) who somehow overshadowed the lieutenant governor. In a way I feel sorry for him because he was not the focal point.

James Burns, a retired judge whose father was the iconic Democratic Gov. John Burns, was relieved that Hawaii did not follow the Republican wave yesterday in many states on the mainland. The Hawaii voter is a little more akamai of whats going on in government, he said. The stuff I hear on the mainland: `I want to cut. I want to cut. I want to cut. And you say, `Where? And they dont have an answer. In Hawaii, I think they understand a little more.

Yes, poor aiona..overshadowed by a repub who tried to get the Ssuperferry here between Islands and enacted Furlough Friday.. Get Real, Inouye!

4. Sounds like you've been to the Islands, nofurylike!
Mahalo nui loa for your awesome Aloha!~ B-)

This means so much to Hawai'i..and I just moved back so it's a wonderful present from Huna for all of us. I heard Neil Abercrombie's acceptance speech last night and this dude is In To IT! He talked about Respecting our Land, growing our food, and about Real Change! .. that is so needed in our Gov after 8 years of being under the abuse of one linda lingle.

Neil is a real friend to the people and to President Obama and I couldn't be happier today~!

And, his Lt Gov, Brian Schatz, is a bundle of Aloha Energy, too!

Love, Peace, Aloha, & Solidarity~ :loveya: :grouphug: :hi:

I haven't been to Maui or any of the other Islands besides Kauai yet but plan to visit there this time around.

Neil Abercrombie does understand the reverence for the Land..Aloha i ka aina, and it's really nice to talk to someone, cyberlly speaking, today who knows how important that it!

9. i feel the same way, talking cyberlly speaking with one who gets
it, Cha!! thank you so much!!

'olelo hawai'i, hawai'ian language, is taught in adult ed all over the place, in high schools, cheap, in community colleges .... kids are learning it again. it is coming back strong as a widely spoken language. and it's beautiful. and people appreciate it immensely when one speaks it, even sporadically.

just quick, you might know this one, but kanaka maoli is the true name for native hawai'ians, loosely meaning the "real people." and i wrote it wrong, but i was meaning to write ia 'oe - to you - versus what i did write, trying to say that.

rushing through, for now. i am thrilled for you that you will live there!! i never got to kauai, but it looks gorgeous!!

:loveya:

peace and soloidarity, always!!
