As his image was projected on a large flat-paneled television, with closed captioning for those who could not hear him above the din, diners ate their blackened alligator and talked sports, not spill.
One exception was a husband and wife couple who were largely skeptical of Mr. Obama’s approach. The husband, Neil Cole, is a new recruit to the ersatz town of 2,000-plus cleanup personnel that has been superimposed on this port town of less than 500 people.
“The trouble is that he shut everything down,” he said, referring to Mr. Obama’s drilling moratorium. “That’s wrong. We need to move forward.”
His wife, Tammy Cole, 48, said it seemed that Mr. Obama was using the disaster to further his political agenda. “He turned it around to his advantage,” she said, “to talking about green things.”
Her husband agreed, saying, “He’s bringing it all around to get this cap-and-trade thing pushed through.”
Does anyone doubt that if Beck or Limbaugh had been on the tee-vee, you could probably have heard a tootpick drop in that restaurant? Obama's fighting tooth-and-nail for the people there, and these folks can't be bothered - except for the imported stimulating conversation of Mr. and Mrs. Cole. :eyes:
