I just found out this afternoon, he's coming on Thursday! A lot of us were hoping, since he's been to other "red states." I'm so excited!!! It's snowing here today and Thursday will probably be crappy weather, but I'm going to bundle up and stand in line all afternoon if I have to to get in. I'll freeze my feet off if I have to.
This is so huge. NOBODY campaigns here. Not even Republicans. Especially not during primary season. Our primaries are in May and never matter to either party. This year, we're having our first Democratic presidential caucus in the history of the state--Saturday, the 9th. I'm going to be there.
And Barack Obama is paying attention to us!!!
Did you guys know that Nebraska was the ONLY state in the U.S. that Bill Clinton never bothered to visit during his 8 years in office? Yep. About two weeks before he left office, he breezed through the state for one day because the snub was being talked about. And I will never forget the expression of disdain that seemed permanently affixed to his face the entire visit. I would rather have had him ignore us entirely than come here on some pity/save face sort of trip.
There's some people who haven't forgotten that treatment around here.
Obama has five or six staffers here coordinating efforts for the caucus. He's been advertising on TV. And he is going to visit! There's talk that Michelle Obama will be speaking in Lincoln on Friday, too, but it's not confirmed.
In contrast, Hillary has "grass roots volunteers." And isn't finalizing her schedule until after the results are in today. In other words, if she visits, it's only going to be because she feels like she needs to in order to stay afloat. Because, you know, it's all about HER. :eyes:
If Nebraska can't manage to do some serious crushing on Obama, then we're all crazy and probably deserve to be snubbed. And I mean that in love... :)
