1. I'm glad he's finally getting the whaling he deserves in GD and GD:P.
The guy skates by as some untouchable liberal saint but the Democratic President gets shit on every single day.

Hope that medicine tastes good.

11. Bingo!
Even during the presidential primary, it seemed obvious that Kucinich is jealous as hell of Obama. Whenever Kucinich appeared on the talking head shows, he would just tear into candidate Obama with tangible bitterness.

You know, it's fine to have your differences with your party and president, but why not work in a constructive, rather than destructive way to further your ideals.

Bernie Sanders is not even a Democrat, but he found a way to IMPROVE the Senate bill, not destroy it.

28. He did the same thing with Dean in 2004.
Kucinich resented that Dean found an in with the anti-war crowd and quickly rose to the top of the primary.

It pissed him off that this little known governor from small-time Vermont, who at one point rivaled Kucinich in the poll numbers, quickly became the front runner for the nomination because he was one of the vocal critics of the Iraq War.

He resented that a moderate like Dean could gain so rapidly with progressive voters. Kucinich's supporters were just as ruthless back then, too, often saying Dean wasn't a real progressive (gee, where have we heard that one before?) and that Kucinich was the true anti-war candidate.

Maybe so, but 2004 wasn't just about Iraq. It was about a whole lot of issues and Kucinich couldn't articulate anything outside of the Iraq war.

6. I'd like to do some comparisons ...
It's really fun to go to OnTheIssues.org and do some side-by-side comparisons of the current whipping boy of the moment to the current saint.

What I find really interesting about Kucinich is that if you take his ratings by various liberal and conservative groups since 2003 (when he made his sudden, public switch from pro-life to pro-choice, thus solidifying his liberal cred for the 2004 election season ...bullshitopportunistbullshit...) his scores are in most cases *exactly* the same as ...

Rahm Emanuel.

Imagine that.

10. And he's fairly close to Bart Stupak in the liberal ratings.
If I recall correctly, Stupak had a composite liberal score from the National Journal of 54 while Kucinich had a score of 65. Not that far off when one considers that most of the Republicans were down in the teens and single digits.

However, the liberal base doesn't even support him in the presidential primaries when he ran so I don't understand the adulation he gets here at DU.

I just read an article "What's In Their Health Care Wallets" Daily Kos 2008. Obama and Clinton paid for their staffers health care. Sir Dennis and McCain did not. Dennis supporters probably read the Op before. Very interesting to me but the Dennis lovers won't pay attention to any of this.

You can Google the article. It gives all the details on Clinton, Edwards, Obama health care. Oh, let's not forget King Dennis.

16. Wow, listening to Dennis now on the Countdown now -- he's lying his ass off!
I don't know what bill he's talking about, but he's seriously misrepresenting the Senate bill and Obama's proposal. Kucinich even goes so far as to invoke Jacob Hacker's name to support his position -- Jacob Hacker, the "father of the public option," is FOR the Senate bill and made a series of suggestions to fix the bill to bring it closer to the public option, which Obama has taken up and put forth in his proposals.

Jacob Hacker - Why I Still Believe in this Bill
http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-treatment/why-i-still-believe-bill

Kucinich offers false generalities, such as "it's just a giveaway to the insurance companies," and NOTHING to back it up! He doesn't mention the Senate bill's requirement for insurance companies to put either 80% or 85% of their revenue into customer care, and if they don't do so, to rebate to their customers the difference between what they did spend and the 80% or 85%. He doesn't mention that the bill fixes the percentage of annual income one can be charged in premiums, so that you cannot be charged premiums going forward that steadily go up in "double-digits." He doesn't mention that since the Senate bill passed, the House voted to repeal the insurance companies' anti-trust exemption.

He doesn't even mention the billions provided in the Senate bill for community health centers, which was one of his own ideas to include in the House bill!

I didn't watch the whole thing, but did Lawrence ever get around to asking Kucinich if he himself has the benefit of health insurance? I'd like to know the answer to that. Because if he has been covered/is covered by insurance, but is denying it to others on the premise it's not single-payer, even more so then what a true *&^^%^$%%^&&* .

and I didn't even have the stomach to watch him do it..I just read the headline that had dannis saying "The President says he's for the PO but it's not true"..well that's a divisive lie right there.

dennis is a divisive little shit.

Thanks for actually listening to it and putting this together, q.a.

Oh, it doean't matter what good is in the Bill..if it's not perfect then he turns up his nose and folds his arms and yells NO.

34. To what purpose?

He's building the basis of his campaign rhetoric.

I frankly didn't pay much attention to Kucinich before this last year. I looked into him in 2003-4, realized he'd switched positions on a number of very important issues *just in time* for the primaries in order to carve out a place in the pantheon of primary candidates, and gave up thinking about him after that. All politicians are opportunists to one degree or another, and I don't begrudge them that. But blatant hypocrisy is another thing altogether. The stench of fail was strong with Congressman Kucinich, and I wanted little to do with him.

Now, I'm starting to pay attention, not because I think he has a snowball's chance of winning anything outside his little piece of Ohio but because he's got enough people genuinely paying attention to him now to serve as party spoiler. Party spoilers are dangerous creatures, susceptible to all sorts of ailments. One of the first is that they tend to start believing their own press and look upon their minority worshipers as a real movement. They clog up the works of party political machinery, which I realize is what a lot of people want, in the same way a lot of people wanted to "let it burn" no matter how much very real death and destruction would come from a total meltdown of the economic system. But I think those people are crazy, and I think Kucinich is becoming a genuine threat in that respect.

I'll be more directly involved in the political process than I've been in my entire life if that bastard puts up a primary challenge in 2012, and I will go to war with any idiot who backs him.

But, I'm afraid that's where this is headed.

Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 06:52 PM by namahage
Let others deal in factless hyperbole.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=400227

Dennis Kucinich has sponsored 97 bills since Jan 7, 1997 of which 93 haven't made it out of committee and 3 were successfully enacted. Kucinich has co-sponsored 2,921 bills during the same time period. (The count of enacted bills considers only bills actually sponsored by Kucinich and companion bills identified by CRS that were themselves enacted, but not if they were incorporated into other bills, as that information is not readily available.)

Here are the three bills that were enacted:

H. J. Res. 26: Proclaiming Casimir Pulaski to be an honorary citizen of the United States posthumously.

H.R. 6150: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 14500 Lorain Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, as the "John P. Gallagher Post Office Building".

H.R. 4083: To make available to the Ukrainian Museum and Archives the USIA television program "Window on America".

Kucinich is a follower according to our statistical analysis of bills in this legislative session. Kucinich tends to cosponsors the bills of other Members of Congress who do not cosponsor Kucinich’s own bills.
