Just found out my son needs braces.
He has Asperger's and some sensory processing issues. Does anyone have some experience and advice for me? I'm having a hard time imagining going through this, to be honest.

1. I can only tell you that my son
with Asperger's got braces at the usual age and had absolutely no problems with them.

In the interest of full disclosure, we had no idea at the time that he had Asperger's, partly because that was right around the time it became a diagnosis, and it was several more years before we figured out that there was a name for how he wad different from other kids. I think in many ways we were very lucky in that way, because he didn't go through his childhood being his diagnosis, and as an adult (he'll be 29 in about two weeks) he's coping quite well: has a full-time job in the CAD field, is in his own apartment, has as much of a social life as he wants to have.

What I will ask, is how does he do on routine dental visits? If he's okay with them, don't obsess about the braces. Don't focus on the sensory issues, but deal with them if they come up.
