7. He's a retired Philadelphia Police Captain
From article: (link below)

Retired Philadelphia Police Captain Ray Lewis was in Zuccotti Park last night with the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

<snip>

A Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson confirmed to the Observer that Mr. Lewis was a captain prior to retiring in 2004. He was photographed at the protests yesterday afternoon as demonstrators ringed Zuccotti Park in the wake of their eviction.

8. This guy is why I think you can say honestly the police who attack protesters are outliers
That 84 year old woman in Seattle who was completely covered in mace shows police have to be held to account for bad behavior. That 55 year old woman in New York punched in the face is another place where the police defied a lawful court order and acted in ways that hurt citizens should face the stiff arm of a prison sentence. The woman in California in the wheel chair almost trampled by police action. On and on and on...held accountable for acting under the color of law but violated obvious constitutional rights.

Here, this man comes in uniform protesting the same long arm of the government acting on behalf of its corporate 'citizens'.

12. Retired PA Police officer Ray Lews makes some great points -- !!!
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 01:39 PM by defendandprotect
One of his most important points, imo, is that we need to make corporations "impotent" --

and to me that means uninventing the dollar!!

Deprive corporations of our money --

Another great point that he made was that the Bosses always take out the leader --

Always asking "who is the leader?" -- that's a cop --

And just want to add here that they have been taking out our leaders since 1963 --

The coup on JFK not only took our president but our people's government --

And this continues to go on -- anyone who could be a rising leader or someone who

is a threat to the establishment is removed --

Europeans commented on this a long time ago, noting that,

"American liberals and progressive have an odd way of being assassinated or eliminated."

And our corrupt CIA removed leaders around the world --

Even only a few months ago, I was listening to a British broadcaster who was commenting

that he couldn't recall a time when Great Britian was so bereft of traditional liberal

leaders!

Lewis also says -- "don't confront cops" --

"Obey their orders" --

If they are illegal orders -- contact ACLU

He also makes clear that force is only to be used to

"protect someone's life" -- or to "protect them from bodily injury" --

that TALK -- NEGOTIATION -- is the way to go!!

Also loved his comments that the Mayor/City are so worried about a "dirty" park

while people are starving to death -- and freezing to death!

24. Man should he run for a national position - Senate perhaps. Articulate, smart, and on target.
I almost put "on the money" in the subject line but thought - "E-GADS! What am I THINKING?" That just isn't the right wording.

I saw the video clip of him being arrested and he was standing proud and stoic. I saw the 15 minute clip of the 84 year old woman who got pepper sprayed on Olberman's show. These are the ones to emulate. Violence and antagonism is not going to help the cause.

To be honest, I was advocating that they shut OWS down until spring so they won't become marginalized and diminish in numbers with winter coming on. The last 48 hours has changed my mind. They have the momentum and if they can keep it up then more power to them. FOX can claim whatever it wants (the WH shooter was with the Occupy movement for example), but that's not going to change anyone's mind. The only people who watch FOX for "news" are the choir.

Watching this unfold really makes me wonder how movements like Equal Rights and Suffrage were successful. The "mainstream" news (and unfortunately I have to include FOX in that) is not really focused on what's going on, just what seems controversial and something for the talking heads to blabber at each other about. Most of the REAL news is in clips like this one and sites like DU are the vehicle for propagating the links. The same can be said for foxes bouncing on trampolines and squirrels eating lemons, and silly cats, but this is serious shit and at least for now there's no way to suppress it. I do worry that they'll find a way. Other countries have tried without success, but the one thing our country seems to be good at is putting resources into maintaining the powers of those who are really in charge and they've got a shitload of money.

31. Money is not real wealth, we give it it's power. It is only a symbol.
What is power is the ability to manipulate power. That can be done via trade in services or goods. Money is just a symbol for things traded.
