Baucus cracks me up, he has such a different personality than Tester and Schweitzer. :) I can't help it though, I have always liked Max, although Schweitzer and Tester are the future, baby!

1. .
Thanks for the video.
While I knew that the Gov was a Dem, I didn't know that the other Senator from Montana was a Democrat as well. Plus, the Dems control both houses of the state legislature. Nice to know that Montana isn't as conservative as one might think.

2. it isn't
most people don't care about politics, they have a natural Libertarian bent to them though. They respond very well to populism, and that is what Tester and Schweitzer are all about. It has a big liberal stronghold in Missoula, and after that they hold strong in Bozeman, which is the other college town, and on the seven Indian Reservations. Lately it seems natural conservatives like farmers and ranchers are voting Blue because they respond to populism and the strength of Dems on preserving land and the environment. ("for huntin' and fishin'" is how Schweitzer puts it) In fact, this last election the newfound support in rural areas, traditionally conservative, is what put Tester over the top against Burns. Baucus used to be a little more to the Left, he's got a solid progressive record if you discount the last 5 years or so. I am hoping he will get back to his roots a little, more in the mold of old school Montana progressives like Mike Mansfield and Lee Metcalf. That would be great for our country as he is the new Finance committee chairman and has enough seniority to where he carries weight on different committees.
