In the capital Tripoli, its been relatively calm following fierce fighting in one of the last districts still loyal to Colonel Gaddafi, Abu Salim. Our chief correspondent Alex Thomson has been to the hospital there.

This ITN-produced report was broadcast on August 26 in the UK on Channel 4 News and PBS NewsHour in the US. PBS edited out a whole minute of footage in its version usually of corpses (2:24-3:44 in the C4 version embedded here.)

1. THIS is why I don't ever advocate violent revolution!
As long as there is hope, no matter how faint, of overturning a bad system through legal elections, I will continue to speak up against violent solutions.

Monkeywrenching is a a valid tactic, of course. Violence should be avoided until there is no other alternative.

Sadly, in Libya, there was no other alternative.

3. If they didn't fight now, they would have had his sons and civil war.
There was no peaceful way out.

2. I have no idea what happened in that hospital.
That report was factual, but gave no information on how the facts occurred. Yup, dead people in the hospital. Not refrigerated. Got that. Other than that?

4. chaos is EVOLUTION
only the weak who are SMART enough to step aside when things change. or QUICKLY change allegiance
only the young and willing who see a cause and are willing to die for it. unfortunately haven't lived life long enough to appreciate it. live and let live is just good manners. nothing else.
just an afterthought. we are damn LUCKY to be in a country that has the power to change things by our WILL. lucky to be in a country where we live long past what nature dictates without medicine or civilization(age 35)

chaos is good. but who will survive? the just , weak or strong?

Have seen you that happening in an effective or uncorrupted way here? I sure haven't.

6. i haven't either. BUT
forums like in DU. communities like in DU. imperfect as they may be. add to the humanity. the heart. to make them FEEL better. like they matter.

for those that can survive that is. ;-)

ahh the life. for the last that have the luxury to ask those nagging humanist questions. for those that of us that are probably going to actually die of obesity/heart failure instead of those who have to actually have to scratch the earth to prevent them dying from utter starvation.

we are the LUCKY.

7. I have a little knowledge of such things...
I am no expert and of course I wasn't there. It looks like there was no boss/administrator type to delegate and no able bodied men to move the remains of people who died out to a morgue or to be buried. They were either called away, ran away or were killed themselves. I don't think there was any malfeasance though maybe some who were in pain and were not going to survive were killed, hard to say. The wounded were doomed when they were brought to this place. Those saved by the red cross were indeed fortunate. I really admire the people who go to these types of places to help others, they are selfless and as I see it very brave.
As far as the rightfulness of armed revolt, there are times when enough is enough and the middle east has reached that tipping point. American citizens have a ways to go before that tipping point is reached. Many among us are still mesmerized by the flickering tube and believe what they are told. At this point our political system is a con, as in "confidence". And many of us,I include myself in this statement, are conned. We must keep trying to create the Progressive society that the USA is destined to be.
Its "of the people, by the people, for the people." Its NOT "of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations!"
