8. Geithner Kneecaps McConnell
Geithner is well aware of the 14th Amendment unconstitutionality of the debt ceiling:

"I think there are some people who are pretending not to understand it, who think there's leverage for them in threatening a default," Geithner said. "I don't understand it as a negotiating position. I mean really think about it, you're going to say that-- can I read you the 14th amendment?"

Geithner whipped out his handy pocket-sized Constitution. Allen tried to brush it aside. "We'll stipulate the 14th Amendment," he said.

"No, I want to read this one thing," Geithner insisted. "'The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for the payments of pension and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion' -- this is the important thing -- 'shall not be questioned," Geithner read.

So as a negotiating strategy you say: 'If you don't do things my way, I'm going to force the United States to default--not pay the legacy of bills accumulated by my predecessors in Congress.' It's not a credible negotiating strategy, and it's not going to happen," Geithner insisted.

This doesn't mean Administration will use it, but they won't be taken hostage; and it also proves McConnell is nothing but bluster, if he is anything at all.

5. Behavior modification
It's said that rubbing a dog's nose in his mess does no good, for the dog has no long term memory connecting his action with the later punishment. Now humans are supposed to be a thinking species, capable of feeling remorse for past actions and remembering not to do it in the future. But I don't think there is a pile of shit big enough to rub McConnell's nose in. The only thing that Repubs propose to remedy the disasters of their own making is MORE of what caused it. All I can conclude is that Repubs are stupider than the dumbest canine.

6. Bonus: White House rejects McConnell invite for Obama to meet GOP
White House rejects McConnell invite for Obama to meet GOP

The White House has rejected Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell's (Ky.) invitation for President Obama to meet Thursday with Senate Republicans about their position on the debt-ceiling talks. White House press secretary Jay Carney said McConnell was asking Obama to visit and "hear Republicans restate their maximalist position" in the negotiations to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

"We know that position. That's not a conversation worth having," Carney said at his daily briefing.
