1. That has to be bullshit.
Everyone on the same set/same lighting; none of them looked "Miss USA" caliber; the cliches were kind of obvious, like Miss Vermont being dressed in flannel. No attribution, just "we asked..." Who is we? I'm not buying' it, but I admit it was funny, whatever it was.

7. Perhaps you missed the thread the other day...

Did the Onion post this?

3. Nope! Nor history and science. Peasant labor doesn't have
any use for that. About 6th grade or so should be plenty to qualify kids to work in the mines or as a Rush Limbaugh houseboy.

4. yes, it's a joke and a wickedly sharp one at that--
--it shows how absurd it is to ask such a question like "Should Evolution be taught in schools?" of Miss USA, and how absurd the answers are when they say "No." They're essentially saying, don't teach kids facts, or truths, or reality, or if you do, make sure they also believe that lies, fables and myths are equally valid to all the facts.

And the best part of this satire on the evolution question real candidates were asked and their answers is that it shows not only how ridiculous a question it is, and how ridiculous the answers are, but how scary stupid the most people in the U.S. are; these ladies, representing their states, indicate what most people ignorantly think and how badly our educational system has been forced downhill by religious nuts and conservative politicians.

All in all, a very painful if funny video.

Can't add any more or say it any better - well done Moonwalk. I did see the evolution question and I was embarrassed and ashamed.

11. And a fine job of acting by those young ladies.
Who I am sure are far smarter than that.

16. I agree with you except beauty queens are not generally
representative of the average student. These are women that have focused more on their looks and how to walk gracefully than their studies of anything else. They'd do better with questions about eyeliner and gloss.

17. Average student, no, but average "person" that most people would want to represent them....
We shouldn't ever forget that Sarah Palin was one such beauty queen (shudder! :scared:). Luckily, most such beauty queens do not get voted into political office, but hey, it only takes one....

18. Ouch! Actually, I still have more faith in the average person than
that too. I seriously doubt the teabagger is the norm.

8. Why Did You Post This?
I don't want to see republican voters speak on whether math is required or not

I was thinking of creating a petition that would merge Fox News and The Onion
Who's in?

13. Was there a recent evolution
discussion I missed? (I just got back from a nightmare of a trip and haven't really recovered or caught up yet.) I knew this was humor but I didn't know what was being mocked. I thought it might be an anti-pageant message. If it was meant to target evolution deniers specifically, it is perfect. It is kind of scary, though, that enough people (including myself) wondered, if only for a moment, if it was real.

15. This is a parody

I normally would not post a clarification like this but it seems too many people did not see the original material and do not have a reference to appreciate it.

Comment 7 above has a link to the real life Miss USA contestants answering the question
“Should evolution be taught in schools?”
