Michele Bachmann's Holy War
The Tea Party contender may seem like a goofball, but be warned: Her presidential campaign is no laughing matter

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and, as you consider the career and future presidential prospects of an incredible American phenomenon named Michele Bachmann, do one more thing. Don't laugh.

It may be the hardest thing you ever do, for Michele Bachmann is almost certainly the funniest thing that has ever happened to American presidential politics. Fans of obscure 1970s television may remember a short-lived children's show called Far Out Space Nuts, in which a pair of dimwitted NASA repairmen, one of whom is played by Bob (Gilligan) Denver, accidentally send themselves into space by pressing "launch" instead of "lunch" inside a capsule they were fixing at Cape Canaveral. This plot device roughly approximates the political and cultural mechanism that is sending Michele Bachmann hurtling in the direction of the Oval Office.

1. I can do without the gratuitous Bachman/Palin porn jokes. Why does this happen?
Because they're women in politics?

12. No. It is not a reason to go to porn for your rebuttal to Bachmann.
You have lots more to work from. Taibbi needs to think harder...

10. Imus pulls him down to his level so they can start relating
For the interview. The rest we need more than psych 101 to figure out. Feminists should get mad at the sexist put down of all women. Then we go away mad because it's personal. Then that nice lady in the business suit becomes president.
Nobody will get the point that Michelle has delusions of grandure, is a religious zealot, and lies out her ass.

Free speech. We self sensor enough.

11. Yeah, I got that it was a bonding thing between Matt and Imus.
Sick and stupid.

What is it, can't you guys come up with something more intelligent? You are that dumb?

3. Can you plagiarize yourself?
Taibbi's scathing review of Thomas Friedman's The World Is Flat is the single funniest book review I've ever read...but it makes the same damned joke about "Far Out Space Nuts." WTF?

7. "Far Out Space Nuts." WTF?
If the metaphor fits, don't count it before it hatches. (my tribute to Friedman)

And it does indeed seem to be a good fit for both situations.... which are similar: Friedman's literary, historical, intellectual and general cluelessness matches Bachman's

4. I do see the resemblance he mentions in the article

And don't look her in the eyes; don't let her smile at you. Michele Bachmann, when she turns her head toward the cameras and brandishes her pearls and her ageless, unblemished neckline and her perfect suburban orthodontics in an attempt to reassure the unbeliever of her non-threateningness, is one of the scariest sights in the entire American cultural tableau. She's trying to look like June Cleaver, but she actually looks like the T2 skeleton posing for a passport photo.

15. Whats with American culture
seriously - the puritanical position on sex is just so ridiculous.
What is even more ridiculous is the condescending approach to women - "Oh don't mention porn its demeaning to women".

Really, i mean really - you STILL THINK THIS ?

Women watch porn as much as men - wooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!

You mean - women like sex, you mean its not forced upon them by patriarchal domination reinforced by cultural religious dogma - you mean I cant scream FEMINISM every time sex is brought up regarding women and sex ?

Seriously - the rest of this planet treats women with respect - that means allowing comments like Matts.

Can you imagine it?

The dinner/ lazy afternoon conversations?
TV night
The movies you'd go see
A ball game.
The trips to the museum

Sheesh! Imagine Glenn pontificating in the Impressionists Wing of some museum!

Or the latest science.

"Hey Glenn! Did ya read that book about the discovery of Dark Matter and Dark Energy?"

Jesus.... I can't imagine being his friend.

18. I always thought too much was made of Imus' 'nappy haired ho's' comment-
-but going from there it just figures that he would land on Fox "News" afterwards.

Of course my sympathy for him over the "NHH" flap (assuming it was an isolated incident) doesn't affect my position that listening to him is slightly less entertaining than watching paint dry.
