Tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Madrid and other Spanish cities in a mass march against austerity measures, social spending cuts and unemployment.

On Sunday, the protesters streamed in from all sides of the capital, chanting, banging drums and waving placards. Some walked for as long as five hours - and by early afternoon a vast crowd had converged close to parliament

The slogans and chants are the same: against mass unemployment and social spending cuts, and in opposition to European-wide austerity measures.

"It's important to take to the streets because a series of measures are being taken by those in power - like the Euro-pact, for example - making Europe belong to the bankers and not the people," one woman protester said.

"We are all against bankers, money and capital - and against corruption and the misuse of public money. That's why we're angry.”

1. It's wonderful to see so many people across Europe
trying to stop them. But sad to realize that this was a Global Crime of massive proportions, that robbed this country and every other one they had their dirty hands on, and now they are attempting to make the very victims of their crimes, pay.

It's intersting to see the same 'recipe' applied everywhere, the same labels 'austerity' and 'shared sacrifice'. Any politician who uses those labels should be immediately suspect.

Spain has to do what Iceland did, Greece and Ireland also, kick out the government if that government is collobarating with the Global Economic Terrorists, then start prosecuting the corrupt bankers, politicians, nationalize the banks, end foreclosures, and start looking for the money, in offshore accounts, Swiss Banks, wherever they might have hidden it.

Iceland did these things and the country is now rebounding. The people there were too angry to listen to the 'austerity' garbage. They should be the model for the US and it's way past time to tell this government to either start finding the criminals and prosecuting and to get our money back! No Austerity and let the thieves 'share the sacrifice'!

4. SINOs. I'm more disappointed with the
Communist parties. They've become good little bourgeoisie left wing parties worrying about "elections" instead of revolutionary Marxism. Disgusting.

At least in Greece some are studying some Trotsky and trying out REAL Marxism.

3. At least people in Spain have the sense to speak up....
Paul Ryan and the Republicans roll out a plan to rob Americans of all that they have slaved for, for 50 years , to pay into Social Security... and the people are silent.

Senior Citizens will get it when they are sitting shivering in their tents. Then the cops will come and roust them out in the middle of the night with no where to go.. and still.. no one will speak out.

Senior Citizens are now rallying behind the Republicans and AARP to cut Social Security. Go figure.

5. Maybe the Spanish can lead the way
Too many Americans are so gullible they still think the Repugs are going to save them. Yeah--senior citizens cutting social security :wtf:

But then many liberals (or those with some degree of hope for better things) have given up on politics and feel like only right wingers are being heard. The demoralized have the attitude that "What good does it do to protest? Nobody's listening." Besides they're having to worry about losing their jobs.

Wisconsin SHOULD inspire the rest of us...

6. K&R. "Kleftes!"

Solidarity with our Greek and Spanish brothers and sisters.

Kleftes must go. Power to the people.
