Dear DU,

This video is not strictly relevant/appropo to anything..... but some of you may be interested to see me on the smallest screen. Its been 8 years now since the long since tombstoned Bev Harris and I broke the story about the hackability of Diebold voting machines right here on DU.

I talked in more detail about how we broke the story open in this video which was produced as part of a History of the New Zealand Internet project called DownToTheWire

Some of you here may recall:
The story:
nside A U.S. Election Vote Counting Program

The cache of source code (& the editorial)
Sludge Report #154 Bigger Than Watergate!
And here on DU... the activism that a bunch of us put together.
The Scoop/Diebold UBERPOST: Ratings and Rantings from the South Pacific

I see (thanks to BradBlog's stirling work - and that of countless activists across your great nation) that your elections are still hackable so everything changes but nothing changes I guess.

Scoop is still publishing US Election Integrity news when we receive it - and we will probably revive http://usacoup.scoop.co.nz for your next presidential election along with another advertising camapaign to support the work of activists in the field.

So how are things around here anyway? It's been a while.

Regards
Althecat

1. Good to hear from you.
After all of the hard work by many, not much seems to change. Election fraud is still rampant throughout this country in most every state, if not all of them. Unfortunately, the struggle to just survive is taking precedence. I guess it could be worse, but don't know how. Regards, and thanks for all the time and effort you gave to make things better.

4. The fight will go on and (from a distance) we will keep on keeping on.
There does seem to me from afar to be some progress. Prosecutions and legal actions which are showing some legs.

2. hey al....
I posted about black box voting back in 2002, and am still dismayed that Dem party establishment ignores it. Even Dean didn't run with it when he was chair, and that was the biggest reason I wanted him in at DNC.

3. Yes. The significance of the problem has never been appreciated in the establishment at all really.

5. Hellooo, Alastair!
Mike Collins is sometimes here, not as much as before. :(

It seems disaffected repubs need a harbor. sometimes I think that's what might be going on about these parts these days.

You were a fine troll fighter and kept your head above water in the Election Reform Forum. Excellent to see you, and what a fine and professional clip you've put here. A K&R to you, good sir! :hi:

7. I would love to meet you face-to-face someday.
Got any work down under for an election integrity terrorist (at least according to our election-stealing TN Secretary of State)?

Or an organic farmer for that matter?

12. We seem to have a shortage of agricultural workers and organics are getting very big here....
As for calling you an election integrity terrorist! What a great tautology. I wonder if they understand what they are saying.

13. Yes, being labeled a terrorist was quite the adventure
Here are a few of the threads on my little dance with ball-less Republican election thieves here in Tennessee:

"A visit from the TN Bureau of Investigation to my humble home (just now)"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

"Bernie Ellis, DU's own 'Fly by night', makes it to the front page of my local paper (Athens, Tn)"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

"The Battle of Ellis' Farm" -- a humorous postscript to my visit by the TN Bureau of Investigation

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

"What Eleanor Roosevelt said about the Battle of Athens (TN) -- It's a Warning"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

Read and enjoy. Ah yes, DU and Scoop/NZ -- the papers of record for our troubling (and undemocratic) times. Thanks for all you do. If you know anyone who's hiring, let me know. Tennessee is getting a bit too Middle Ages for my tastes these days.

14. Hi, Al!
What a long, strange trip, eh?

Someday I'll make it to New Zealand, and we'll share a beer or two.

Best wishes, friend.

15. Nice of you to stop by Citizens United Hell.

Maybe hacking isn't a problem any more since now our elections can be bought anonymously. Eliminates that pesky secret voting middleman. :)
