"If owing money isn't a criminal offense anymore in America, why are so many debtors being sent to prison? People need to pay the bills, says New Deal 2.0's Bryce Covert, but throwing them in jail won't solve anything. As Americans use credit cards to charge food and clothing as prices go higher and wages only drop, they need to be punished for being fraudulent, says Covert—but not by putting them in prison..................."

When will they lock up the bankers, politicians, and multi-nationals who have strapped the USA (via fascistic corporatism) with debts of $500K or more for every tax-paying worker?

1. I have a feeling that
Debtor Prisons will eventually make a come back. With Major corporations putting money in the pockets of Republican politicians, its just a manner of when legislation will be passed in some States. There are some states that employ companies to run their prisons.. so private debtor prisons could happen one day. Scary..

2. Too late, they're here...
My wife works in a prison as a Nurse Practitioner. She has told me there are numerous people in the system because they couldn't afford to pay minor traffic violations or child support.
Prison time for those items should be illegal.

3. The credit card companies make most of their money...
by giving credit cards to people who are poor risks, can't afford to pay them off and will end up paying a monthly balance with high interest for the rest of their lives. Unless, they default. Now that it's harder to declare bankruptcy, throwing a few people in prison should scare the rest into making their payments.

Credit card companies and bankers should be heavily regulated.
