......in a new video of Walker addressing the Greater Milwaukee Committee (GMC) in 2009, it appears that Walker, who was then a county executive, may have been insinuating that he supports such a plan under which the state would radically restructure local government finances. He told the GMC that if county boards do not “act on major reforms,” then it’s worth looking into “the possibility of eliminating county government”:

WALKER: For us, we’ve been looking for almost two years at an alternative for county government. Here’s the tease. We’ve looked extensively. I know many others have looked at this. We believe if they don’t — they being the county board, the state legislature, the governor — give us the tools to act on those major reforms, it’s probably time for us to seriously consider looking at the possibility of eliminating county government, and replacing it with something better. That’s a combination of moving assets to the state, moving to municipal governments, doing it other way, that’s totally different.

2. Eliminating co government means spending less to control it

I could wax long on the down-side of reducing representational gov't, but the real issue here is CONTROL of government, and controlling it means reducing the number of electoral skirmishes and battles it takes to control it. Control costs money and even the Koch bros. are looking to reduce their spending.

Remember back in the 1990's when Republican members of Congress wanted a law to require Federal law enforcement personnel to register with the County Sheriff when they went out in the field?

4. While we progressive are talking about going local they want to

eliminate the local. Here where I live local governments and organization have been consolidating their smaller county administrations in a regional organizations. I think they do that so that they can go to the government together on similar issues when it comes to grants, etc. For instance there is an organization that deals with lake shore (Superior) development such as marinas that includes all the north shore counties. They also do a lot of things regarding housing together. I have often been afraid that even though this makes sense is it just the first move to giving up local control?

29. I think what's telling about this clip

is how it shows how deep in his personality is rooted a giggling hidden agenda which wrongly assumes moral and intellectual superiority over all opposition. A very very dangerous and foolish man.

In this case, he wants to get rid of Milwaukee county government because the far right wing all white suburbs want even more local control. They want to become autonomous gated communities -- Apartheid, in other words. It's not that the county is redundant, it's that it gives the inner city a voice over with regards to those who would exploit and isolate it. Walker wanted to formalize the ghetto status of Milwaukee.

At least that's how it looks to me from the clip. I don't know the full story of his fiasco of a term as Milwaukee County Executive. I do know how segregated Milwaukee is.
