MSNBC host Cenk Uygur speaks with former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and Newsweek's Jonathan Alter about Republican Governors attempting to seriously cut funding for education in their states despite the fact that only 3% of Americans support it according to a recent poll. Is it because they want cheap labor provided by an uneducated workforce?

7. That is what this is all about
Privatizing education. Education for profit, some GOP crony has plans to make billions on education.

2. Simple formula
Educated = informed

Informed = likely Democratic voter

Democratic voter = unlikely Fox viewer, unlikely Republican contributor

Elementary, my dear Watson...........

3. They don't want us educated
Unless it's the way they want.
When the Republican education plan is finalized we'll be taught to count to 100 and read road signs. (And the Bible, of course)

6. Cenk missed one very important point:
The rich don't just want a trained rather than educated populace. They also want to profit from creating one. The Gate's foundation is not doing "wonderful things" for public education, neither is the President or the Democratic Party. They are merely aiding and abetting the vulture philanthropists and hedge fund hoodlums who want to sink their fangs into the $500 billion spent annually K-12 education. I dread to think what they have in store for public colleges and universities.

4. Making us uneducated allows us to compete with India & China
& Mexico.

If our workforce is in Debt, no health care & uneducated then it is easier for the Corporations to turn us into a 3rd world country. USA as it is now, can NOT compete with China, India, & Mexico so they have to turn us into them.

I know the arguement it drives down consumption and consumers, but they just have to rotate out debt/credit card/bank schemes & switch some of their products they make to a lower quality and sell based on volume not price.

JUST IMHO

8. Same Thing In New Jersey - Slang Term 'Christie'
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 07:24 AM by studmoose
The governor of New Jersey is sure living up to the nickname "Christie" at Urban Dictionary:

If you agree with it, give it a thumbs up!

9. Gates and Education
Cenk, Cenk, Cenk!!!! The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are NOT doing wonderful things for public education!!!! Bill Gates is working hard to demonize teachers and privatize education. I'm a huge fan, Cenk, but you really need to do some research on the Billionaire Boys Club and their focused efforts on dismantling public education. Gates's arrogance is alarming; his strategies are proven failures. And if you do research this, please do not give any credence to any studies financed by Gates; they lack credibility (to say the least).
