1. What's remarkable is they were nominated for No End In Sight, previously.
Looks like the Academy is getting with it.

2. I just hope more and more people realize this.
Then, someone needs to go to jail.

The banksters laughed in our face. Taking taxpayers' money, then giving themselves lavish bonuses.

The insult.

Not to sound overly critical but I usually don't waste my time either watching the Oscars or living vicariously through celebrity and overpaid Hollywood entertainer pretenders, but this was worth seeing. Mr Ferguson made an excellent statement. Were you listening Obama? Where are the perp walks? Where are the claw backs? We could make a big step towards balancing the budget and helping those more needy if these bankers paid their due.

edited to add: The Justice Dept just dropped charges against Countrywide Financial Sub Prime Mortgage innovator Angelo Mozilo

5. The corruption
Last week my company brought in the people that handle our 401K. They were talking away about the usual stuff about how good 401K's are and their wonderful track record and all that. I asked them if they have read "Why isn't Wall Street in Jail" in the latest Rolling Stone and the answer I got was; "I agree with you, some of my Wall Street Brothers and sisters went too far". I told the guy I admire his candor.

However, I don't do a lot with my 401K because I feel Wall Street is extremely corrupt and rigged against the little guy. The impression I got is that people that deal with Wall Street for a living have a much different world view than us average people.

I also told him there's good reason to be wary because the too big to fail banks are now bigger and there has been very little systemic reform in Wall Street and therefore it is not to be trusted!

7. It's a club and you ain't in it.
The bankers and financial people have been able to structure a club and culture that gives others the perception they are the most important people in the world, even though they actually do far more harm than good for society. They run a casino and produce nothing. But with the help of the media, the public perception is that these people must be very important because they are very rich and thus highly important to society. It is a scam and it continues, and we bailed them out and will sacrifice heavily for it while they get to exploit us.

The flash crash last year where the market fell a huge amount in a short time was never adequately explained , because it exposed the fraud that permeates the system.

8. Ahhh, the Carlin video!
Edited on Mon Feb-28-11 11:17 AM by 90-percent
I use that 3 minutes as a preamble to the later Noam Chomsky vid I also include:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJUA4cm0Rck

Which is 22 minutes and Noam's comments on "current events" are very valuable about how much we are getting hosed by the wholesale corruption of all our institutions....simultaneously! I'm a grass roots kinda guy, so I email vids and articles now and then to build a groundswell of outrage over the Mafiazation of our Government. These go out to all in my orbit who have emails and I think can handle it.

I hope the academy award winning doc nudges America over the tipping point from complacent to activist. We as a people have to connect and overcome this tyranny by our own government. C'mon, there's 98% of us and 2% of them!

Or how about this; I'm a baby boomer, married with no kids. I was born in 1954 so I grew up taking American Middle Class prosperity for granted. Rather than have people of my generation sending off young kids with their whole lives ahead of them, why don't those of us over, say 55, organize and take up arms and have the old people dying to save the young people for a change? We could turn this tyranny around and allow these kids to get going and fix up the world so that it's fair and they are given all the public resources necessary to avert the global disasters brought upon by climate change, which is propagated upon us by the rich and powerful so they can maximize their personal wealth!

Going out with a bang will make a much better tombstone than withering away as I loose my grip on life and everything I have worked for during it.

-90% Jimmy

plus, it would be nice if us boomers got labeled the "Greater than Greatest Generation". That would go a long way to help me deal with dad issues!

11. I just watched "Inside Job" last night. Must see. We are so fucked. From Reagan to Obama
the same morally bankrupt criminals have control of our treasury.
