A former Coast Guard member who was beaten and raped while serving is among more than a dozen former servicemembers suing the Pentagon. Kori Cioca told The Associated Press her story. (Feb. 15)

1. What is she talking about at 0:20?
What does she mean by "I don't have any disks in my face"?

3. I think she means the lubricating ligament-like discs
that are inside the joint where the jaw hooks onto the face on each side.

Loss of these makes jaw motion difficult and painful and can be horrible for the rest of your life.

4. A horrible story, and not just because of the rape.
Rapes happen in all walks of life, and they're horrible every time. The true horror here is the lack of care and concern and justice from this woman's superiors in the Coast Guard. Each and every one of them should face charges for failing to meet their military and human responsibilities.

8. I agree 100%...
they need to lose everything the worked toward...and spend a very long time in prison, preferably Leavenworth.

5. Yet another reminder
that patriarchy and misogyny are still pervasive in our nation. Women and children have always gotten short shrift. Apparently, too many men think that's okay.

9. I can't speak for other males, but this one sure as hell doesn't think it's OK...

11. Not all men hit.
Not all men rape. Men who respect women, and honestly support equal rights, need to address misogyny wherever and whenever they witness it, no matter how much 'easier' it would be to look away and say nothing.

6. "My orders were to sit down and be quiet"...
This woman has every Right, indeed, an obligation, to ensure that not just the perpetrator of the assault be held to account, but those who attempted to cover this up as well.

This is intolerable, and I stand by these victims in these crimes. No woman anywhere, at any time should have to live through this. I salute her and her comrades for having the courage to speak out against the atrocities and those that have attempted to cover this up.

to use a quote...upon the perpetrators, "may God have mercy on you, for you'll not get mercy from me."

10. This just makes me so fucking angry and upset.

Add the Lara Logan assault story i read about today, and I feel almost violent. I'm goddamned trembling. The way people get away with hurting the most vulnerable among us....ugh. This woman was vulnerable, but she is NOT weak. She is strong and I hope she gets justice.
