1. But everybody's doing it!
Outsourcing!

I still hear talking heads from right wing think tanks on C-Span's Washington Journal defending outsourcing as a business model citing lower cost consumer goods as the big benefit.

How much longer will working class Americans continue to vote against their best interests by voting for Republicans, Teabaggers and blue dog Democrats?

3. The market for these low cost items goes down incrementally with the lowering employment rate

2. Let me tell you a couple of things about Phillips/Respironics
Once upon a time there was a company literally built up by its founder from his garage. It became one of the most successful (and still is) respiratory support medical device companies.

Royal Phillips then acquired it.... and as I understand it from extremely reliable sources, they have extracted enough water from it to support the "light bulb division", which for some reason, was running into the ground.

None of it was due to these hard working people... It was management, US trade agreements and greed that brought us here to now weep, right along with these hard-working people.

Phillips/Respironics continues to use up talented individuals and run the entire global business into the ground. They use cheap materials from the division out of China, while consolidating sales and service until there is little life blood left to continue its once excellent workforce.

Everybody hates what they've become and if they are lucky enough, they are waiting to get to retirement.

Royal Phillips joins other global giants without a heart left to care about what made it successful on Wall Street. Fuck Main Street.

I hate what they've done to Respironics and I hate what they've done to what once was loved as Phillips.

Thanks for posting this, OS

4. I work for Respironics...
I have to tell you the truth. Since Philips bought us, It's gone downhill. No good news at all. I haven't had a raise in 3 years. Respironics hired me in June of 2004. Things were great "back then." After Philips bought us out, things just seemed to go south. Maybe it's because of the global recession, but it just doesn't "feel" the same. It used to be like a small family. Then, all of a sudden, we have a new name and a new identity, and the family is HUGE! Kinda sucks, if you know what I mean...
