How I discovered this video: the top comment on the Young Turks video discussing Florida being named the "weirdest state" led to a 10-second clip of Bugs Bunny cutting Florida off an American map. The full "Rebel Rabbit" cartoon was uploaded on Youtube just today.

The plot: Bugs Bunny discovers that rabbits get only 2 cent bounties each (in 1949 dollars; foxes get $50 and bears $75). When he goes up to the US Game Commissioner (maybe the creators meant the US Fish and Wildlife Service) he realizes that rabbits aren't destructive and that's why their bounties are so low. So Bugs decides to wreak havoc all over America.

Lately there's this right wing conspiracy theory about Obama wanting to give American lands (including Manhattan) back to Native American tribes. Guess what? Jump to the 4:06 mark of this clip! I guess that's where the wingnuts got their idea?

1. Being cut off is an edict that is used in religions.
It says some houses are cut off.

I understand that concept, however when people use it to explain why something happens to some group of people.

They usually don't use an argument, but use some effect, often caused by them not God, to break empathy for something they do wrong and want an excuse.

Let me explain it.

Some sociopath starves or murders a bunch of people, then he says they must have been cut off by God. That is how many religions use that teaching, against other people. Also some call any rebellion against any human claim of authority rebellion against God, so then get brutal when anyone challenges an unjust system. It is really sociopaths behavior hiding behind a false religious excuse. If you believe that, anyone could simply claim authority, and say you are all rebelling. See how easy that is. However I don't believe that is best, nor the way people should behave, and believe people should decide what is best by heart and mind also, not just some claim they should have authority by personal bias.

The only time 'cut off' as far as house lines are concerned should be used in thought, is to look at your own actions, not to judge someone else, because you can't know who is cut off, and who is treated unjustly by another person.

And if you think everything is about biological reproduction, then you want a world of Octamom and the Duggers, and they are your pinnacle of society.

So 'Cut off' to excuse wrong behavior done to someone else is more then wrong, it is stupid.

Side note, I would not say Florida is cut off in my view of things, both not to judge, and it would be wrong to group a group like that. And people in Florida as a group are as good or bad as anyone else.

2. Oh, wow, I hadn't seen this cartoon since I was 7 or 8

I remembered Bugs sawing off Florida, and stealing the locks, and complaining about the low bounty on rabbits, but I hadn't remembered that he had given Manhattan back to the Indians too!

4. I don't know
The last time I remember watching it was in the mid-60s, which was a time when cartoons like that were still usually shown in their entirety. I think I distinctly remember the sawing-off-Florida part because I was really into learning about maps and states at that time.
