Just like many of the threads here on DU...Obama has disappointed me as well but to see most of the comments around here about Obama & those who support him really saddens me.

A diverse party is no longer considered a good thing & now it appears if one does not walk a clear Liberal line on every issue then it is clear that person is a Conservative...People get mad as hell when the word "PURITY" is used but that is exactly what many of the comments clearly suggest. This is the message I see here on DU anyway.

I have asked this question on other threads & I will ask it again...

Will the same ridicule & hyperbolic attacks be aimed at Nancy Pelosi if she allows the tax cuts for the wealthy to pass the House? There is no way around the fact she could end Obama's secret Conservative tax agenda if she really wanted...Will Nancy be accused of being stupid, weak & a secret Conservative?

Will we see Nancy Pelosi supporters ridiculed & reduced to Tea Bagger like idiots the same as Obama supporters have been done?

Will the home page be full of angry attacks on Nancy Pelosi if she allows the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts to pass the House? Or will the slight "tweaks" proposed be enough to excuse Nancy Pelosi of all wrong doing?

I guess we will see.

that if Republicans had their way he would have written Battlefield Earth. Is that what you want for America? The President stood tall and fought for a slightly less terrible SciFi movie and gave us all the Phantom Menace. I am not saying that it was the perfect movie but Obama is all that stands between us and another L Ron Hubbard based film. We MUST continue to support him to avoid this horror.

That's just the way I feel listening to some unreasonable Obama defenders.

45. It's true there's an incalculable divide

between what dems do and what would actually be good for the country and clean and simple enough we might have a chance of recovering from the shattering harms done us over decades since the rise of the neoliberals, for example to cite the most obvious, single payer health care, without which our country will always be a monstrous absurdity, but despite the new harms perpetrated by Obama in Rahm's care, he's done several things of great significance no other president has accomplished, and those while the people who gave blood and marrow to help him get elected (like progressive me) went home and tried to put their lives back together. The first thing he did out of the gate was cut the power of lobbyists. If there's any greater proof his heart and mind are in the right place, I can't think what it would be.

We do have to start thinking about how to put someone up there who's committed to actually fixing things rather than moving them slowly in the right direction though, or as we see now in the wrong direction in order to keep the possibility of doing a few small good things open. And we need to do something about the Senate and the Supreme Court.

It occurred to me one simple Machiavellian strategy that could work: Get America an external enemy with the same politics as the American right wing. Then like the German-Americans and the communists before them, the Tea Partiers would be too embarrassed to show their faces. For instance the CIA could do a right wing coup in Brazil and have the leader turn on us ... oh, they never do that.

In the meantime, I encourage everyone when the subject comes up to remind those present Osama Bin Laden is right wing. He's a religious conservative from a capitalist family just like most republicans.
