A new time-lapse video illustrates the depressing rise of food stamp usage throughout the U.S.

The video's creator, Zero Hedge's John Lohman, points to the alarming levels -- food stamps now feed a record 43 million -- and warns that the program is the only thing keeping Americans from going "postal." Sinatra's upbeat tune "I've Got The World By A String" serves as an especially disturbing soundtrack.

According to a recent <em>Wall Street Journal report, food stamp usage has increased almost 60 percent since 2007.

3. Maybe Americans need to 'go postal', yo?

Jefferson recognized that occasional necessity.

5. Depressing that the person who made this does not know the definition of recession
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 01:07 PM by Hamlette
completely ruined it for me. When you say something stupid like that (implying that the recession did not end because food stamp usage has gone up) it makes all your other numbers/work/ideas look suspect.

Too bad.

Recession is a word that has meaning and it is to tied to food stamp usage.

10. Facts do not equal truth
Technically speaking, in traditional economic terms, the recession IS over. However, the wealth being generated by the recent growth is once again being concentrated in a smaller portion of the population, smaller than ever before. Therefore, many people are finding subsistence difficult and prospering impossible. The growth at the very top far exceeds the shrinkage of the middle and bottom. This results in the paradox of more wealth and more poor people at the same time. It's not at all easy to be overly concerned with semantics when your stomach is growling. When someone is completely devoid of empathy and stuck in a world of rigid descriptions/tunnel vision, it makes their humanity suspect.

Too bad.

Asshole is a word that has meaning and is associated with people such as yourself.

7. There are quick flashes to a face and written messages.
Too quick for my aging brain. Is that what you call a subliminal? Or was this video just made by a very young person who can actually see that quickly?
