1. Just Amazing
Wow. This is basically an on-air meltdown. He talks continually throughout the entire interview and then complains about only getting 30 seconds to answer. Besides all the rest of the ridiculousness in this interview, I just love how this guy goes on her show, literally does not stop talking the entire time and then bitches about not being able to talk.

How do you deal with someone who is unable to understand what it is they are doing, while they are doing it?

Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 02:28 AM by JDPriestly
Kept watch over everyone coming and going. He had very definite opinions about things but didn't listen to anyone but himself and talked on and on.

I wonder if this guy understands that he made a very bad impression on the viewers of the Maddow show.

People watch the Maddow show because they like Rachel Maddow. So he offends Rachel Maddow's viewers by insulting Rachel. You don't have to be a politician to know that if you appear to have a chip on your shoulder, people probably won't like you.

Clearly, this guy Robinson has published things that he is ashamed of. Instead of simply explaining that he has changed his mind since publishing them, he tries to blame Rachel Maddow.

Can you imagine what a problem he would be in Congress -- not so much because he is a Tea-Bagger but because he is such a hick. He's a really provincial type with very little knowledge of the world.

That's my impression of him. I suppose many Republicans will vote for him, but I doubt that independents will, and I suspect that a fair portion of Republicans will prefer De Fazio in the end. This guy is just too insulting to the audience.

47.  He's a really provincial type
Uh... no he's not...

From Wiki:

Arthur B. Robinson (1942 -) is an American scientist and activist. <1> He is the founder, president, and professor of chemistry at the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, where he conducts research on protein chemistry, on nutrition, and predictive and preventive medicine. He is also the developer of the Robinson Curriculum, a self-taught home school curriculum for grammar school children through high school.<2><3> He is currently running for Oregon's 4th congressional district.<4>

Which just makes his most definitely "provincial" performance even MORE despicable and crazy.

60. Regarding Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine
That is not a real institute.
As Rachel Maddow said on her show tonight (see video link below), there are four people listed for the institute: 2 are dead and the other 2 are the two sons of Art Robinson.
And that Robinson Curriculum is a collection of like 99 books written by some nutty guy that died long ago, also talked about on the video link below.

4. Here's the thing....
over on FoxNews the hosts ALWAYS talk over the democratic guests. They never let the dems finish their sentences.
In this case, with Maddow and Robinson, I believe they were having satellite over-lap.
What I would like to see would be that the host (on the opinion type shows) would have a BUTTON and a time clock - the button would cut off the guest's microphone until the question is asked and then the guest would have so many minutes to respond - then a bell would go off and their microphone would then be cut of until the next question is asked.
It would be very helpful on Chris Matthews' show where frequently many people try to talk over each other all at once ;)

when a repub answers a question from a caller they give a long, long answer to filibuster all of the time up.

Duncan Hunter was the perfect example of this during the bush years.

Dick armey is another one and the guy Obama picked for the commerce secretary who got angry and quit because Obama told him he was going to follow his policies and not his own..

has a lot to say but can't back up anything he has said (or written for that matter) before. Looks to me like he will fit right in with his fellow blustering, brainless deep pockets in Washington. He doesn't appear to have any up to date opinions on anything and I bet he is a self proclaimed, God-faring Christian who will pander to any other non-thinkers out there who think he is just their kind of guy. Even under torture I wouldn't watch Part 2 of 'The Mouth.' Sort of reminds me of those wind up false teeth that just keep on clacking........Poor Oregon. Do the voters there actually think this rude dude will truly represent them and their best interests?

10. He has a point...sort of
It is important to discuss the issues during a campaign and he did make an effort to blurt out some of the issues that are important to him in this race. However, it is also important for we the people to know the candidates and their background for whom we will cast our vote for. Rachel was trying to get at just who he is and what is his background and for some reason, he did not want to own up to his past. HHMM????????

14. That was typical...
I have seen this over and over and over since Rove got the Shrub into office in Texas. They simply stonewall and deny EVERYTHING that they have done and said. Its insane that they act like records of their speeches and their writings and their expressed opinions simply do not matter, as if history starts and ends in the second before they are asked a question.

Its infuriating and I cannot believe that it is essentially Modus Operandi for twits like Palin, O'Donnell, Bachmann, Paul, Angle and the rest of them as well. The fact that they have done this and seemingly gotten away with it is mind boggling.

He's a total contrarian. Tell him the sky is blue and he will argue about it. Or... show him mountains of evidence there is climate change, and he will argue....

He is a scientist (don't know if he's a GOOD one or not) but in a way he's exactly like Christine O'Donnell: they are RIGHT, and KNOW IT ALL, and that is all there is to it. Closed minds.

15. My guess is that he's trying to build TeaBag cred.
I was wondering why he went on the show, and noticed he began like a clown shot out of a circus cannon. Before any question was asked, he aired a litany of attacks against his opponent, then spent the rest of the interview talking about how unfair he felt Rachel was.

I'm convinced he did this to sell himself to the far right as "the one who stood up to Rachel Maddow". Regardless of how silly he came off, I'd bet there's an ad in the works, something to the order of "If Art Robinson can do this to Rachel Maddow, imagine what he'll do to Nancy Pelosi". While I'm sure a number of Tea Flakes (who will never see the clip) will give him kudos, they were already going to vote for him.

At the end of the day, I think this stunt will cost him in the polls, and he can ill afford it.

20. Rachel Tried
Rachel Maddow did try her best to get some answer of this nutjob's position but he would talk over her. He would complain he can't get an word in edgewise. You can see in Part 2 where Rachel is so frustrated by this nutjob where she literally bangs her head on her desk of him arguing over nonsense. I feel so sorry for Rachel. She really wanted to know this wackadoodle and he can't STFU and answer her questions. She has prepared immensely about this guy and his position and they keep stonewalling when asked about and complain because he couldn't say his point of view. You watch, this guy is going to make an attack ad out of Rachel and then go to POX News and get sympathy from the morons and the Queen Moron herself!

Too bad the rubes will fall for the spiel this guy is going to use about his "courage" in facing the liberals and their "leader", Maddow.

My two cents is, Rachel, don't bother with this kind of crud any more: The idiots are unteachable and the rest of us--the majority of Americans--already get it. Just keep on giving us some real, substantive investigative pieces.

Although difficult to watch, I think she ultimately made her point. She just "wanted to get to know him". I think we all got to know him...in spades. I'm surrounded in the workplace by Ph D's and some post Docs (engineering). A good number of them, because of their egotistical and arrogant demeanor, simply cannot admit to flawed data. Challenging them usually results in a violent reaction.

31. Hahaha;
I get your sarcasm. A person highly trained in a particular field, such as what you write about may have insight that most people do not even dream about much less understand. If these "Ph D's and some post Docs (engineering)" remain in their chosen fields when making assertions, I am apt to let them state their case; regardless of their "egotistical and arrogant demeanor." This quote also describes many politicians, usually of the opposite party than what is espoused by those here at DU. I for one seriously doubt your statement that "Challenging them usually results in a violent reaction." I for one seriously doubt your statement that "Challenging them (Ph D's and some post Docs (engineering))usually results in a violent reaction." If this were the case, as you use the word usually then I'm sure the media, fox, rush, et. al., would pick up on this. They would run with this and make it a conservative talking point. Another blow against 'liberal education.'

Just saying.

43. Why couldn't he simply address the questions he was asked?
She would have graciously given him all the time he wanted to answer them. Some may have been remarkably easy.

Example-
Rachel: "Do you still have the same position you had 15 years ago regarding the spreading of AIDS?"
Republican: "No, medical research has shed light on the issue and what I thought then was one theory that didn't scientifically pan out. I've long since rejected that theory."

See how intelligent that sounds? Scientists work off of differing theories all the time. No shame for any researchers involved.

What a jerk.

I know and have talked to Peter DeFazio many times, he is a great rep. When I go to town all you see are Art Robinson signs everywhere, in yards, on vehicles and on the highway. Robinson is a real threat to our way of life and shouldn't be taken lightly. He believes we are over regulated, loves big oil, calls public education "child abuse", wants to log old growth forests, and sells a home school study course with a 1911 encyclopedia and racist books in it. I have personally heard him talk to his supporters and he sounds like a used car salesman and they eat it up! This guy is running on a far right wing platform and should be viewed as very dangerous.

54. Fortunately, voters in Eugene outnumber Port Orford.
I used to live in Gold Beach, and I can understand how certain vacuous mindsets down there might gravitate toward this kook.

55. He wasted his opportunity to tell people in his own words how he is.
It was obvious had had no intention of talking about what he stood for, he just wanted to attack Rachel who is not running for any office. She gave him so much air time and he took it and hanged himself. If he cannot handle the questions, he will not make it in an elective office.
