The Republicans, led by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, are trying to systematically dismantle our public school system by forcing good teachers out, and bringing in cheaper, inexperienced teachers, who will be replaced when they make too much money and so on. Ed Schultz rips into Christie in last night's "Fired Up" segment.

2. What they really want is to dismantle UNIONS
because Unions are for the working person. They want reasonable work places, good benefits and good pay. Republicans want to cut out all that so they can privatize everything and give the MONEY to corporations. Who by the way will probably charge twice as much for their services, but pay the teachers 1/2 of what they receive now.

The republicans are trying to do that to all Unions. Reagan started it back in the 80's when he fired the people who took care of routing and bringing in airplanes who had a Union and hired non-union people. And ever since, the republicans have got their bowels in an uproar trying to do the same to every other Union.

13. That's true
And education costs will skyrocket and taxes will go up or the debt will---because low income families will have to be subsidized. The private costs will be high and suddenly they'll throw money at it to funnel it to the corps running it. It's a sad joke.

3. Indiana Governor, Mitch Daniels (R)
"W's" ex budget director, made his first official act as Governor, forcing ALL state employees to quit their Union or be fired... If this is not Fascism there is no such thing.

16. He did it.
The outcome? He is (somehow) still (re-elected) Governor of IN. He is a POS and IMO, he should be the poster boy for rigged elections.

10. Well, well, well...
On the one hand, I am glad that the current assault on public education is getting some media coverage, albeit tangentially.

On the other hand, Shultz is trying to make partisan an issue that has at its nexus this 'democratic' president and his 'illustrious' Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan.

We are witnessing a systematic assault on public education. Some citizens denigrate education from a position of anti-intellectualism. Others, Duncan and Obama included, denigrate education from a position of cost/benefit analysis. Regardless of their motivations, ALL detractors seem bent on drastically curtailing the amount of money our nation devotes to education. The end result will not be pretty.

15. That's the truth!
Heh - Ed could flail the Democrats as easily as any GOP luminary. The moment it was clear that the "No Child Left Behind" framework was being retained by Obama, I could SMELL the fetid dish that was being cooked up in the guise of education reforms. As I've said before, Arne's last name could lose the "A N" and sub an "E" in their place as far as his comprehension of what's wrong with schools goes!

14. Let me be direct. The dismantling of public education
began decades ago when the Weyrich crowd took over Bible Belt school boards. The project is now on steroids and what you are witnessing is THE DE$TRUCTION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE UNITED $TATE$. Go ahead on not paying attention, ranting on about "choice." Too many be brainwashed out of believing in the "common good" and caint hardly FOLLOW THE MONEY.

How 'bout that "grassroots" Dick Armey, eh? Gotta love those 3 BILLIONAIRES funding Rove's operations, particularly after the Citizens United ruling. WHICH CITIZENS UNITING FOR WHAT? And how many students understand FOLLOW THE MONEY? Ever wonder why?

Oh please, I better log off now and go drink some chamomile tea...
