"What was it that hit us on 9/11.... was it Islam that did the dirty deed, or was it blow-back to US policy in the Muslim world?" asked by viruscauser via YouTube.

Send in your questions/suggestions to [email protected] or leave a question here on YouTube or ask on my Formspring page: http://www.formspring.me/MildlyRelevant.

What do you think, DU? Islam, blowback from U.S. policy or something else?

Cheers!

1. I vote for both
The terrorists involved were clearly motivated by religious fervor, but their grievances were primarily political.

3. Agreed...
Most heinous actions seem to have a combination of motivations.

4. Have to watch later, but...
I could see Osama using religion for show, but it definitely seems to me like he's used religion to rally his troops.

5. It's been interesting to me . . .
. . . to have noticed that discussing even the possibility of political motivation has been nearly absent in the media.

7. Well...
9/11 created a very "patriotic environment," if that makes sense. Acknowledging that there at least MIGHT have been some political motivation would force us to discuss if our Middle East policies were less than noble. Anything less than noble is un-patriotic, the Scarlet Letter of post-9/11. It's much easier to say "their religion is wrong!"

A debate on our Middle East policies would've been far more useful, in my opinion, than a war.

Thanks for the comment!

8. I'm glad the conversation in America is now relatively comfortable
with some degree of American culpability.
Back in 2001 you would have been crucified.
Three cheers for progress and maturity.
I enjoy your vlog. Thanks

9. 'Tis a wee bit more comfortable...
We still have plenty of idealogues who couldn't possibly imagine their side being anything other than absolute truth. But if we gotta take baby steps, then consider me a baby! ...Dammit!

Glad you like the vlog! Currently exporting today's vlog and working on Mildly Relevant News in the meantime. A bit lighter on the vlog side today, as I compare Glenn Beck to Krusty the Clown. Will post on here when uploaded.

Thanks again!
