12. If Grayson was Glenn Beck, Gibbs would already be out like Shirley Sherod.
"We have to fire Sherod before Glenn Beck comes on!"

Here's what it boils down to. Grayson has NO RIGHT to be a Democrat with guts! That's like a pancake without a syrup! Unpossible! There is no such THING as a Democrat with guts. Listen to George Bush tell Grayson where to get off -----

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCOYJ7weFEw&feature=play...

The nerve of that Grayson telling the great and hallowed Gibbs to be fired! Around here we cut the deficit as per GOP ORDERS and let the CORPORATISTS do the firing, man and boy. MILLIONS of 'em.

43. Poor Ms Shirley - her name is a sort of verb now...
...In the Dem WH we see that one can be "Sherrod(ed)" by the RW and they will be "Van Jones(ed)" out the door.

Ya know I do not like the dirty tricks of the RW but damn it I am sick and tired of our nation being Swift Boated by the Wrong Wing for a Corporate America. (even MORE than they already do)

What is it about us progressives that we can prove the truth but not convince the nation of it?(is the truth to boring? Should we get hot blondes in bikini's to walk back n forth on the TV sound stage to get their attention)?!?

Grayson does the best job vocally (as well as a few others) but then I have seen so many so called Dem's eat him alive for his vocal views and that he wears outrageous ties. (Huffington was guilty of it the other day - misleading article led many who didnt read through it properly to think Grayson sold out on Net Neutrality. He hadn't but who was gloating that day? Breitbart! If that a$$hole is happy then there is a dirty trick/lie against a decent Dem behind it)

Cheers
Sandy

I think I more want him to resign though to acknowledge this is not the way to do it. I think Gibbs sit down and think if and imagine watching himself as a voter, then consider what he has to do. Even if the President gives him a new post, he can't be upfront championing the other side. I mean why not just put Rove up there if he wants that ??? Let's be real he hasn't just ticked off us, but all of Democratic Congress the best thing is to show honor and resign. Then we can get this show back on the road and these darn midterms.

9. While every word Grayson says is true,
I would posit that Gibbs should stay put because he is a useful barometer of what the president's inner circle really thinks. You'd never get that kind of forthrightness from a more cynical loyalist. Gibbs is there because he has been carefully selected to fertilize the White House press corps garden with the President's memes. Furthermore, it is unlikely that a true leftist could or would be willing to work for this administration.

10. Do you realize how dangerous this has become
The right has already embarked on a mission to make centrist Americans believe that Obama is a far left wing radical, they point to past associations and conjure up Marxism and Socialism. It has worked.... Now Obama's agenda is the Progressive left wing radical one.... The right redefined the center.

11. Yes, and kissing the right wing's ass
has only made it worse. Gibbs is a right wing ass kisser. Obama filled his entire administration with people like that, and now the ass kissing chickens are coming home to roost. The Democrats moped the floor with the Republicans during the election then conceded the terms of political debate to them immediately upon taking office. I think there's an important message in that about what's really going on with national politics in this country.

18. I have never voted for a Republican.
I've been supporting Democrats since the 60's. You should always be on the side you're on. I beat the streets, worked the phones and was a virtual disciple for the election of Barak Obama. None of that made me a fool. THEY already rule. They rule through both parties. You and I are not part of that ruling class. You don't live in a constitutional democracy. It is only a representative democracy to the extend that it represents the financial interests of a tiny fraction of the American people. Start from there.

and the more I witness the more it seems so true. Where is the change I was so hoping for? Nothing but politics as usual, is America in complete decline now? Is it only a matter of time before her demise? What can be done at this point? Can we rise up? How?

23. Personally, I find it simultaneously
depressing and liberating. Depressing because I realize that the country has been an oligarchy for a long time and I refused to see it. Liberating because the cause of our economic, social and political dysfunction finally makes sense. I think our salvation as a civilization will come with the inevitable collapse of our empire and the raising up of a generation not weened to be dependent upon it or taught to think by it. Figuring out how to do that is manageable.

37. I'm not sure I would call it an experiment. What we're dealing with is a corporate-military rule.
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 12:39 PM by peacetalksforall
If it is an experiment, it is their (corporate military*) experiment and we might end up saying that succeeded brilliantly.

I don't think the people who wanted to break through the ceiling of WHITE Christian Presidents did it as an experiment. In voting for him I didn't think of it as an experiment.

But, if he turns out to be the enabler for the corporate-military rule, I would tend to think that for them, it was only a strategic-tactical move to make everyone think that this is still a democracy. Ergo, their success in 2008 and a rulership success as well.

I don't know who it would take to reverse the military-corporate rule and agenda. Their agenda is hot for them. It was planned decades ago and it is in an accelerated phase. Every inch he goes in signing us into their rule, such as the habeas corpus and everything to do with spying and continuing war and prisons - every time a person gets yanked off the street and held and everytime we want a regime change or an ivasion - we will know who is in charge and eventually we won't play their democracy game anymore.

They want kings and serfs with the serfs having enough money to work and spend within limits so that their infrastructure works for them.

If anymore signatures of Obamas confirms this, we know where we stand - but presently there is a fog of doubt and it is great for the military-corporate regime.

*Corporate Military Rule means: Military and Private Mercenaries, Corporate (including all the media and weapons industry,) Banking-Wall Street, Religious Reverends Rabbis and Mullahs, Lobbyists, and the Spy and Prison Industry. The Vast Left/Right Conspiracy.

Comfortable, no.

The social upheaval lurking right around the corner is inevitable. The sooner we get focused and suss out a strategy to effect change as painlessly as possible, the better off we'll be in the long run.

Engaging the 25-30% of our species that lives in react mode--fearful, resentful, bigoted, hate mongering, greedy, pathetic individuals to a one--will NOT work, as has been proven time and time again. We have to move ahead despite these pitiful people, and we have to stop defending our efforts to heal this nation each and every time they attack us. Their resistance should be futile. We HAVE to be the grown-ups here.

30. I agree
I am also a Democrat and have been so since the 1970's.
The Liberal Left should understand one thing. We have been a center Right or Left country till recently. Now we are a Center Left country.
I want Obama to act like the Liberal he is, too.
But, yanking the entire country to the left at this period in time would lose us a shitload of people in the middle.
Votes are won or lost by those in the middle.
I would never ever not vote out of spite. The alternative would be hair raising.

35. True
My main point is that we are already losing the middle because of a concerted effort by the right to make centrists appear radical left.

Its way past time for Obama to address this issue head on and explain to the American people the differences between Progress and Regression. It might be conveneient to blame Bush but it is much deeper then that the real substantive issues plgueing this country have been in process for 30 years

39. Those are the pitfalls of hypocrisy.
When you cut too many corners and trash the constitution, the only thing between us and fascism;

And oh so easily, act out too many "expediencies" in grand kabuki;

And suck up to a duplicitous enemy that is working relentlessly toward corporate fascism, at the expense of those who put you in office.

Well what can you expect?

Supporters don't know when you're farting in their face, or trying to live up to your common sense promises that got you elected, no matter how seldom that moment of truth happens.

38. I don't think it is bait. They are obviously surprised at the resistance to signings and
approvals decided by the DLC.

Does the DLC have to decide if they are going to out themselves by telling us that they DO like the corporate-military agenda more than they like a societal leaugue of believers who trusted what we were told as children. That this is our country and we have rights, one being the pursuit of happiness, including the unhapiness of the truth about the DLC.

32. Ever since Obama's failure to even try to push for single payer,
the system he said he favored when he was running for president, I've seriously questioned his real motives.

Did he really want ONE Republican vote so badly that he was willing to water down HCR until it would make the insurance companies EVEN RICHER. Did he want that ONE vote so much that he compromised the reforms until they would do little, if anything, to create a reasonable, affordable system that won't financially destroy Americans?

Or is it much simpler? Is he in bed with insurance companies, much like the GOP, so he used the Republicans as an excuse to enact legislation that will protect insurance companies' profits for the foreseeable future?

It's obvious.

Years when right-wingers sat and waited for Clinton to something minor and then jumped on him like jackals. Now we have right-wingers lions ready to pounce and progressives are cutting at Obama giving the lions taste for blood.

GOP is using the filibuster to require Dems to get a supermajority to do anything and I'd love for progressive critics to tell us how to do that without moderates and conservative votes.

I really don't see how we pass single-payer without 60 votes to do so.

46. If ever we needed a leader whose mindframe and ideas of government
Edited on Fri Aug-13-10 11:03 AM by ooglymoogly
come from the one form of government, proven over and over, successful above all others;

One who realizes deeply the utter fail and the misery caused, every time, repeated ad infinitum; The now well understood Republican and corporatist scam of putting everyone else in misery for their own obscene greed and gluttony, for whom no crime is too outrageous to get what they want; Using theft in any form to secure their useless place at the hog trough created, by themselves, for themselves; Turning the treasury into their own piggy bank; Inevitably bringing on the next depression or recession, and even more inevitably, bringing this country to its knees.

A place they petulantly demand as their god given right to be parasites, wheedling their way into positions of power, to bully and blackmail; To create boom and bust, to buy up everything and any competitors of that everything.

A leader who understands capitalism and how to control it and keep it honest; How to regulate it and use it for the good of the country; Who understand that a civilized people cannot abandon the helpless or how to keep them from becoming helpless;

Who understands socialism; That, properly used and also carefully regulated and yes, kept scrupulously honest, becomes just as important a cog in the wheels of government as does a carefully regulated capitalism.

Who understands that a social program like Social Security is a piece of pure genius not lightly fooled with, an all win solution to one of the greatest problems facing any civilized society, its elderly, its ill and dying, a phase that is all our destinies.

A leader not afraid of massive direct government projects like WPA to bring an economy back and soften the misery of a depression; That history has again proven over and over is brought on by the sham of selfish pug theft.

Who understands what; "All people are created equal" and the constitution really mean; A leader who understands the Constitution is the tool most vital to good government and surviving success and who will work toward implementing those liberal and giant concepts of common sense decency in all matters at hand; Simply put; Those things he is sworn to protect;

That, as has been proven, many times, is the very key to a fantastically successful civilization to live in prosperity in perpetuity.

How to create and use government run insurance programs like SS, to insure the health and happiness of its people, paying for itself in the case of SS as it progresses or in the worst case generously paid for by all of us; Without parasites sucking the vitality from any and all success.

How to use government for the purpose it is intended; Who's main task is protecting and taking good care of its people and their pursuit of happiness and whose government, by irrefutable law, it is, its community;

Who understands that wars are only to be fought when all other avenues and hopes for peaceful coexistence have failed, and then fought, all guns blazing to win in the shortest time possible.

Who understands the rich can take care of themselves and needs no help, no absurd welfare for the rich, other than a level playing field and the vast network of justice, fire and police et al.

We need an FDR;

I believe Alan Grayson is growing into those magnificent boots that Franklin Delano Roosevelt proudly and resolutely, walked the walk, the greatest walk in a century and more.
