Nancy Pelosi managed to get a Jobs Bill through Congress that will help save public education, and thousands of teachers' jobs across the country. Ed Schultz is "Fired Up" over the GOP's assertion that this bill is only meant to serve "special interests," and by "special interests" I guess Boehner means children and teachers.

2. Sometimes it seems that...
the Democrats being for it is all it takes for the repukes to be against it. I sometimes wonder if the Democratic party changed to a pro-life stance, would the repukes find a way to become pro-choice.

3. The GOP IS automatically against everything the Democrats propose to do - it has become
the definition of who the republicans are. But they really are against education, especially the very right wing "religious" republicans, who fear too much science and reality.

4. Ed is right on - When I lived in FL Jebby boy was for vouchers, vouchers, vouchers!
It is all about control of what our children see, hear, and learn! They want to have control over them so they are like programmed robots! Thank you to Leader Pelosi!

5. You destroy the US Dept of Education;
And there would be no mandate to attend school. On top of that, private schooling would be prohibitively expensive for a good portion of the population. Add this to the percentage of families that don't give a damn about their children's education, just send them because the alternative could be jail and I foresee the US having an illiteracy rate of 10% within a generation. The rich would love this because they would get labor for their businesses real cheap.

7. BINGO! The Republicans are deliberately trying to destroy public education.
Don't educate the middle class. The Repukes want cheap labor and let's not forget that uneducated/undereducated voters are far easier to trick and will therefore vote Republican.

One last point: Public education benefits blacks and hispanics. It somewhat levels the playing field. Can't have that, Mr. Boehner.

8. Republicans despise an educated populace, they want to dumb down Americans, gut & destroy education
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 01:36 PM by LaPera
Dumbing down American will create cheap & slave labor for corporations, who will also blindly go along and fight in every corporate war for profit they are told to, no questions asked, they will hate anyone republicans tell them to...making patriotism and religion a way to completely control the dumbed down having them believe it is noble to follow and will never have any up rising against the rich and rulers - just do as they are told....work, spend & die never utter a word of defiance and never think for themselves.

Sounds like Fox "news" & Limbaugh dittoheads....Shit just at most of the south.

And the best way to do this as the republicans have done for decades is gut public education funding, then trash it every chance they get saying it doesn't work privatize it for their corporations getting our tax dollars instead and have only the elites children well educated, becoming the leaders of the country each generation for the dumb to bow to and obey.
