Cenk Uygur goes over the video of Shirley Sherrod's interview today on CNN and is not happy about the Obama administration actions.

UYGUR: "Man, you know what that makes you, that makes you a pus...hover." ... "They're trying to prove they're fair - to FOX NEWS?"

- snip -

In response to Vilsack's statement:

UYGUR: "All right. That's fantastic. So, let me give you a little background - You know why they were in trouble (in Georgia) for their 'sordid civil rights record?' Because they grotesquely discriminated against black farmers for DECADES. So, the way to fix that problem is to hire a black worker for being racist when she wasn't racist at all towards white farmers 24 years ago who turned out to be her life-long friends. So we will fix our sordid civil rights record of being against black people by firing a black person totally unjustly.

Genius move.

And then, second of all, he says, right or wrong, her record is being called into question. O.K., then what's gonna stop Fox News from calling everybody's record into question, right or wrong.

In fact, NOTHING stops them, in fact, you encourage them every time you do this. So, Fox goes: 'Oh, ho, that person sucks! He's a socialist, Maoist! Ptooh, racist! Whatever.'

And then, here's the Obama administration: 'Oh my god, Fox News said something! O.K. Fire, fire, fire, fire! Right or wrong. Who cares. Who cares. Fox News criticized us. Rightly or wrongly.'

You cowards. Yeah, go ahead and fire someone for no goddamn reason. I can't tell you... I'm not mad, I'm just...

I'm embarrassed for you. As I look at the Obama administration, and their pathetic, cowardly, cravenly giving in and groveling at Fox News at every term. It's kind of sad to look at. Now, Jer and I had this discussion off-air during the break. Don't get me wrong. it's not like Obama said 'hey, Vilsack, go fire her.' I'm sure he never even heard about it. But he's in charge of the administration. So what are you going to do now? Because now you don't know? You know now. What are you going to do now? You're going to do nothing. You're going to bow your head to Fox News again."

3. Cenk is 100% correct
this comes down to BOWING to Fox and the republicans. I have posted this before and I said the same thing Cenk has said....Breitbummer and Fox are going to start another lying match against someone else. It has worked three times they lie and manufactured a tape and gotten away with it, what's to say they won't do it again. If I was Sherrod I would file suit against Breitbart, Fox AND THE GOVERNMENT FOR UNFAIRING FORCING HER TO RESIGN.

4. well spoken
I am so sick of this administration bending over for the right wing assholes.. why do they think this is going to help? The right wingers will hate them no matter what, and the progressives see that once again, they will not fight for what is right.

5. A year or so ago, the White House stood up to Fox and then quickly backed down when they

were accused of (wrongly) telling the media what to do.Since then they have acted as cowardly as possible in every situation that Fox manufactures.

Damn, it's embarrassing.

8. Sherrod's Big Mistake
Lost in the shuffle of the Sherrod story is that her moral was ultimately not about race but about class. And mentioning class differences in this country is a Great Big No No. Even worse than questioning the Official Story of 9/11 or scoffing at the Magic Bullet Theory.

Why? Because acknowledging class would unify working-class voters of different colors instead of dividing them.

And we can't have that.

10. I am not in politics and I am not anywhere as near as smart as Obama
but when I watched that video for the first time, I came away from it thinking that what she said wasn't racist at all in fact she was explaining the transformation she went through when she said "this isnt about white or black, it is about rich and poor", if anything it was an anti-racist statement.

How come Tom Vilsack, the Obama administration and Ben Jealous saw something else entirely? Or maybe they didnt, maybe Cenk is right and they are just cowards and scared of Fox News.

Newsflash: Fox News hates you and will do anything they can to undermine your agenda, it doesnt matter if you fire everyone they want you to, they still hate you and always will.

This is pretty inexplicable if you ask me.

16. I don't believe for a moment that Vilsack did this.
If he had done this, he would have been much more defensive at that presser. He was clearly going off a scripted story, imo.

12. Our sorry state of "journalism"
So Dan Rather had to resign over one piece of "allegedly" untrue documentation. Yet Faux News, as a entirety, can outright lie without repurcussion? If the Administration does not stand up to this, we are doomed. And I'm anxious to see how the other mainstream media outlets report this and how they approach Faux stories going forward.

13. The White House has proven time and again...
...that they can be rolled on matters from personnel to policy. And the "evidence" doesn't even have to be that convincing apparently.

Cenk was right: this was cowardice, pure and simple. (And not a good reflection upon the administration - again.) Disgraceful.

(Not-so)Breitbart and Fox will continue to do this sort of thing over and over again, and why shouldn't they? They keep getting "results". This whole thing is Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football.

15. The administration looks really weak right now
They've been too willing to give in to EVERYBODY!! If they can't stand up to Breitbart...is it too much to think they can stand up to Wall Street? I say so.
