Not having looked at that study myself, I'm dismissive of it: People would be more likely to picture themselves being the subject of pain if the subject is of the same race. I wonder if they used small children of different races as the subject suffering pain and studied the observers' reactions.
Also, regarding the mention of discrimination in hiring: I worked with a white guy who had a friend who worked for a company and that friend told him to submit a resume. He was never called back and asked his friend to look into it for him. His friend was told that, because one of his work references was a black-owned business, the company assumed he was black and threw his resume away upon reading it.
Yeah: Institutionalized racism is alive and rampant in these United States.
