Appalachia with my parents and seeing underground fires. That was so long ago and I was so young, I can't recall the city/area. All of these areas pushed out of sight, out of mind. Thanks for posting this. I often wonder what the percentage of America does not realize this goes on to the extent it does.
I also recall being in Texas as a little kid and being horrified at the oil wells pumping away and the mess...
And strip mining, mountains destroyed... And logging in Maine with forests destroyed except a fringe along the highways for tourists. Communities get ripped away all over for profit and jobs, but it would seem we could do a better job. Other countries are as bad and worse, but the USA should certainly get no gold stars...
This country really needs a good analysis of WTF are we trying to do, but with all of the money involved and a bought government by ultra-wealth I wonder just how much will ever get done.
Generally, the USA never reacts until there is a crisis, and then it's generally a mixture of cover ups and some progress... then forgotten.
I wish material like you just posted was more in the forefront of daily media coverage. If we can ever get to alternative energy and the jobs to go with it, that will be a huge step in the right direction for this country.
Great post!!!
