MSNBC Countdown w/ LAWRENCE O'DONNELL - April 22, 2010: Interview with Michael Moore discussing health care.

MOORE: "Here's how president Obama can fix this, and everybody watching this should write to their member of congress or Senator and to President Obama and say, 'look, you do have the authority to write the regulations, to actually write how this health care bill is enforced,' and he can do -- and believe me, if you remember, George W. Bush did this quite often -- he can write and do executive orders to issue some of the regulations that need to put some real teeth into the health care bill so that the WellPointes and these other insurance companies aren't able to punish you because you come down with breast cancer."

"Who's gonna want to go to the doctor's office when it's full of chickens? I mean, I don't know if you've ever cleaned out a chicken coop but, man, that's the last thing you want is a lot of chickens around. This, actually, Larry, proves something very fundamental about our two parties. Say what you want about the Democrats -- they're a bunch of wimps, they don't have the courage of their convictions, yes they can be bought by big corporations and lobbyists, too, just like the Republicans -- but the one thing that they're not -- the Democrats -- the one thing that they're not is completely crazy. Ideas like this just make you want to go, 'what has happened?' I used to know really nice, smart, good Republicans. What has happened? This is so ultimately bizarre and I just hope they keep coming up with more ideas like that so the American people are reminded just how bad we had it for those eight years in the first part of this decade. And we certainly don't want to go back to that."

2. There is no need for a capitalist insurance company, none at
all.

The new law is a farce in the way it ensures the profits of insurance companies.

I hope more people get medical treatment under this new bill, but I don't see the bill as anything more than
kicking the can down the road.

12. Well, there is a need if you are one of the couple thousand HMO execs in this country
and you have to make money somehow since you don't really have an actual ability to provide a product with a clear value added. So they did the next best thing: force people to buy their product.

What were you expecting, some of these MBAs to get actual jobs working to provide an actual value proposition? That is hard work man!

11. We love our class warrior! Michael always stands up for the middle class and the poor.
Feel as if I need to eat some crow. On other threads, I've defended our president on health reform, even though it didn't go far enough, because he's been under attack and I'm afraid for his life. But he panders too much, shows too much respect for those who don't deserve it. But We the People are under attack, too. I want him to fight for us. We need him to fight for us.

Read a story on HuffPo that compared Obama's rhetoric about the robber barons to FDR's. I much prefer FDR's fire to Obama's milquetoast. I just expected so much more from this president.

Thanks, Michael Moore, for reminding us to hold our president to his promises. He must stop holding hands with Wall Street and Big Pharma.

Haven't felt this crushed since the Supreme Court decided that the Oval Office belonged to the Boy King.

8. This was going on 25 years ago, as well.
I had a friend who developed lung cancer. The insurance company went back many years before and found that she had taken an anti-depressant that was later found to cause cancer. She got one fill of the prescription, but it made her sick and she never took more than 2 pills. The prescription was never refilled and they could prove it.

They refused to cover and her husband ended up being charged for over $100,000. His company had closed their doors, so he was without a job and in his 60s. The hospital finally wrote it off, due to his situation and what the insurance company did.

I think this has been out there, just not as exposed or "in-your-face" as it is now.

Insurance companies should be charged with fraud, as they sell you a product and when you try to use it more than what they consider the norm, they pull it out from under you. Therefore, their product/sales pitch is fraudulent.

17. Regulations are worthless if they're not enforced
or if the penalties are so low the insurance companies can write them off as a business expense.

If worker safety regs aren't enforced does anyone really think any that are suppose control the insurance companies will be?

20. Making money off of human suffering ...
hurts my soul. :(

Time after time, things come to my attention that show me, clearly, that I am not a capitalist.
