1. Is this some kind of "black slave voodoo" thing he's riffing off?
I agree with Cenk, it's mental and I'm not sure there is any percentage in trying to figure it out.

3. I highly doubt anyone who listens to Cenk would ever send Pat money.
But shit...Robertson is on his last legs...so are most 700 Club watchers. Do young fundies watch him or just the old and decrepid folks still willing to buy this charlatan's BS?

5. The historical context:
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 01:25 PM by WhoIsNumberNone
During the time Haiti was a French colony it was an incredibly lucrative cash cow for the French- because they could grow sugar there. That sounds weird today, but during the colonial period and before sugar was a very valuable commodity. That was why Napoleon didn't throw in Haiti with the Louisiana Purchase. (The reason the French sold the Louisiana territory to America was twofold: They needed to fill their coffers for the European wars Napoleon had planned, and once those started it would be impossible to keep the British from taking Lousiana away from them anyway- so they got something for it while they could) Although the French fought to keep it, they were also at war with Britain, and couldn't also support an army 3000 miles away so chose to cut their losses. So is the Devil England perhaps?

On another subject- why does anyone give even the slightest bit of credence to anything Pat Robertson says, ever? he is fit only for mocking, and yet he must have a small army of Jesus-bots who keep sending him their retirement checks so he can stay on TV.

7. nothing so unusual about Robertson's statements
For anyone familiar with Pat Robertson there is nothing so unusual about his statements. To these new ones I merely yawn.

In fact what is of more interest to me are the responses of the lockstep conservatards. Chomping at the bit to condemn Robertson. Efforts to DISTANCE themselves from the old goat.

Analyze THAT for a minute: The nut case Republicans finally realize how stupid and out of step their disgusting party is. A little too late for theirs (and our) own good but never-the-less there it is.

So our whole collection of genuine WAY over the top Cons thinks they can absolve their sins by piling on the huddle. .

Robertson is just senile.

The rank and file Conservative nut cases are stupid, cowardly and disgusting. The real contempt should be saved for those asswholes.

9. Ding ... Ding ...
Cenk nails it at the 3:28 mark. If one reads the history of Haiti, one will find that the French and the US referred to Toussaint L'ouverture, the leader of the rebellion, as a devil. So, in that sense, Pat was correct; there was a deal struck with that devil .

During rebellion, just as during the american slave rebellions, there was a large contingent of Black slaves that opposed the rebellion. As the campaign for freedom gained traction, the landowners were given a choice , free their slaves, take whatever possessions that you could carry out and leave the area, unharmed, or be killed ... this was a DEAL that was honored throughout the revolution. Historical records have yet to verify that any landowner that accepted TO's DEAL was met with physical harm.

Likewise, the slaves on the plantation's were given a choice, join the uprising as a soldier or remain on the farm to work it and provide food stuff for the soldiers; but the freed slaves were not permitted to leave and further serve the disppossessed landowner.

These are the DEALs with the devil that Pat might have been referring to.

10. What does the government have in common with Pat Roberson
1.Both Take your money.
2.Scare you as a way of manipulating you.**
3.Give your money to someone else for their gain.
4.Blame everyone else, for the problems of the world

Here is a little test to see how high of an IQ someone has

Ask them if they believe in god?

To their answer then ask why?

Yes=Seems like everyone has some kind of book, parent,or teacher, that they believe proves it.
Or in pats case a direct contact.... Could he be talking to the devil?? Maybe so? LOL
No=Careful a little harder to exploit.
Could-be=Real careful a thinker

**Both take your money out of fear
Pat fire of hell.
Government,IRS,Threats of Jail
In Pats defense his enforcement isn't as violent
If you think the USA isn't violent just tell the god fearing cop you don't want to go with him.

11. The government is we the people.
The fact that it's been corrupted by special interests is the problem, not the government itself or as a concept.

Are you a tea partier? Is so, is for you.

13. This is much like the Conservative trend towards
blaming the victim. If you lose your job or get sick and lose your house, somehow it's YOUR fault.

And you're right, it's completely sick.

16. Don't forget-
If you got raped you were probably asking for it, If you got mugged you should have been carrying a gun, if your house was destroyed by a hurricane you shouldn't have been in New Orleans, and if you were unjustly racially profiled you shouldn't have been black.
