1. K&R for reality - we're in 2 damned warzones still. The death, destruction, cost... It's a shame.

2. When I grew up we had the draft. Everyone was pretty much aware of the

tragic cost of war, especially Vietnam, eventually. Here today it's out of sight out of mind. Especially those that wave their little flags, many if not most never having seen the implications and tragedy of war, feeling good about being patriots when they've not lost any skin in the game.

To me, these two endless wars we have now are akin to Vietnam, but most of the masses are insulated from the horror of it all. But it's good money for the industrial military complex, just like President Eisenhower warned of decades ago. The personal tragedies and the financial cost of these two wars is ridiculous and insane.

5. Our economy is wrecked

 No jobs, un affordable health care,no food,educated by lies
from the media, homelessness... this forces people into an
unjust war just to take care of their families and
survive...the wealthy have no worries. So we get poor,
undereducated and often damaged children fighting an assault
on civilians, the horrific things they endure change them for
life. We are like Angola, only instead of 10 year olds we get
17 year olds, full of fear and self doubt. The military, just
like a street gang, brainwash them and make them fearless by
giving them weapons to go with their injured psyche's. They
are taught to kill, rape, ...the lord of the flies. This is
becoming our society. Armed people at Presidential visits.
The poor ranting at the thought of taxing the
wealthy..learned behavior..dangerous...not based in reality.
We "can't" educate our children, "can't"
provide jobs, "can't provide health care, "can't
give them food and shelter. We "can" afford two
undeclared "wars" against the poorest nations in
the world. Occupations, slaughters on both sides. Death, loss
of innocence and sanity. This is America. Once the most
cherished nation in the world. Now a third world nation that
condones torture, promotes religious wars and is a bankrupt
bully. Thanks to Bush. Starting with Reagan. Our country is
dying, our people are slaves to the wealthy and we are not
taking to the streets. We have been silenced except for some
right wing lunatics who don't believe our wealth has to be
redistributed or our people need education, health care
anything they can't pay for...My God, we had 50 years of
unprecedented growth when we had 90% tax on the wealthiest.
Tea baggers can barely afford their bags, yet they are so
brainwashed they believe that these elite should be able to
hoard their wealth while everyone self destructs. Regular
Americans know nothing of real life in other countries and
how their citizens live and are treated, free medical, paid
leave...we are a third world country in comparison, but our
media won't mention that.

4. For ever, I have said that the US is so war-aggressive because we never suffer the

consequences. Going to other people's lands and destroying {b]their homes while our families and homes are safe has led to the disconnect.

A draft-military spread the relatively minor casualties wider than in the current (volunteer) mode, but even then, most Americans were not directly touched by our wars.

I long for the (long-past) days when the leaders actually were the warriors. Then, at least, it was their own ass on the line when they got their itch for killing. Today, it is a painless decision to keep killing. Why do you think we are still in Iraq and escalating in Afghanistan?

7. Bring the Troops home.

40,000 soldiers X $1 million per soldier a year.

Our soldiers lives, and our homes are on the line.

Afghan president pledges to tackle corruption and says his
country's security forces should be ready to take over
responsibility of unstable areas in three years.

Kabul's streets were deserted early on Thursday with armoured
vehicles blocking off major roads. Security officers were even
stopping people from walking on the streets.

The government has declared Thursday a holiday and reporters
were barred from attending the swearing-in ceremony.

“They should all go to hell ... What's happened in the last five
years? It will just be the same again,” said Mohammed Shah, as he
struggled to make his way back home.
