1. Someone finally caught on.
To the fact that freeperville is a scam and it can't cost thousands of dollars to maintain an ascii text web site.
Dude needs a drink of water, too.

5. I would go w/bronchitis, but there appears to be some underlying
condition. One thing for sure, he's got Jim Rob down to a science. He's a scammer, his site looks like it came out of the Grant era... ;)

4. It took twelve years for people to realize they were funding
Jim Robinson's lifestyle? Clearly, he saw that he could use those people. It is no different that what the old Revival Traveling Salvation Shows used to do in Oklahoma. Get all the locals high on God, take their money, and run.

6. $88000 to run an ASCII Board???
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 10:46 AM by WyldRogue
Wow, those people over there are totally clueless. All one has to do is view the source code on the pages over there and it is standard HTML using java script with img embed options and nothing more. Basically it nothing but txt and pics and it costs $88000 to run it for 3-6 months???

I have maintained a forum for over 9 years. I provide file attachments (.txt, .zip, .rar), private messages, chat room, runs SQL, PHP, JAVA, javascript, Perl, etc and total cost of running it has only cost a bit over $4k, that's for 9 years.

John/Jim Robinson has found a way to freeload off of his members. I wonder if he reports the donations and if he has ACTUAL receipts to show that it costs $88000 to run a modified ASCII board?

22. Yes I run a few websites of my own
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 06:37 PM by TheEuclideanOne
When I looked at FreeRepublic a while back I could not help but be amazed at how primative it is. It reminds me of one of those sites that you do in college beginning programming course. Either that, or when you are learning a language for the first time and create something crappy, but functional, website and have to add disclaimers when you show it to people explaining that it is your first attempt.

In the end, it confirms the level of technology that I would expect from the freepers, so I am not disappointed in any way really.

26. I host, run and maintain my forum myself..
...with a ton of amenities to my forum members and my cost is totally manageable. To me, it looks like the Robinson clown is ripping those people off. Even if he has outside hosting and maintenance, it still does not equate to $88,000 for a quarter.

27. Holy Fucking Shit!
I didn't even pick up on it being a "quarter" I was seeing it as a total scam for a year. All I can say is that this is the downside of being in that crowd. My suggestion is that they should all double or even quadruple what they are donating now. They should make sure that they give until it hurts. Make sure that the guy can buy a few houses, maybe even a plane or two. Then they can all pat themselves on the back and cheer about how they are promoting capitalism!!!

We have no clients, customers or employees. We do not accept paid advertising. Free Republic is not affiliated with any political party, group, news source, government agency or anyone else.

Free Republic is not a traditional business. We are a political discussion forum and independent grassroots conservative activist group supported by donations from our readers and participants. 10. Who IS this guy? He implies that his story was used to raise contributions.
Or am I reading something into what he said? Hmmm... must be mighty tweaked by something to go to the trouble to make this video when he's in such bad shape. Of course, it could ALL just be "reality TV."

11. I may be alone here
and I think free republic is a shit site full of bigoted assholes..
I just don't find a problem in making money off of people who come to a board created for activism or entertainment.
If Freepers like his page, and are stupid enough to pay for it,then he has every right to make a living off of it.
I don't agree with his message but i'd bet the owner of this site eek's out a pretty good living as he should IMHO.

12. I read the comments section, where he posts replies to comments.
It's not much more than what's on the video. He sounds as if his worries are larger than Free Repubic but it got under his skin somehow. His questions are valid, but might do more to rally the troops over there than anything else. Kinda strange.

Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 06:33 PM by ProgressiveProfessor
Reading his site is a hoot. When it finally collapses out of the weight of its own drama, it will be a high quality site for tin foil recycling.

I don't think he is ill, or at least has not gotten worse since I first met him.

This "conflict" is probably getting him more hits than he as ever gotten in his life.

19. The guy does appear to be ill, and he claims that Robinson has been using him to increase donations.
Maybe freepers have been donating thinking that they're donations are helping this man in some way?

This could get interesting.
