We need a citizens group to demand protection from the federal government. Protection from the Taliban Racist Terrorist Patriot Movement.


(Via David Neiwert, http://crooksandliars.com ) The main militiaman featured in this is a fellow, evidently from Oklahoma, who calls himself "July4Patriot" and is one of the key players in an outfit of veterans who call themselves the "Oath Keepers". They're organized around a batch of wild conspiracy theories involving supposed plans to use the military to begin rounding up American citizens and placing them in concentration camps.

Indeed, you can see "July4Patriot" -- whose real name is Marine Sgt. Charles Dyer -- in action at a July 4 "Tea Party" in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in the video we snagged earlier this summer. At that event, Dyer ranted at length about the supposed roundup conspiracy.

There's a growing contingent of people out there on the fringes who not only really believe Glenn Beck when he warns that the government wants to destroy America, but think he's being too tame. And of course, the crazier his claims become, the farther out to sea they all go.

8. What's really sad is that many of the beliefs they have are true. The government no longer

functions for the working class--only for the investor/ruling class. The people of Iraq and Afghanistan who fight us are NOT terrorists. They are indigenous freedom fighters who are trying to protect their families against the invaders from the U.S.A. The U.S. military IS training our armed forces to fight against Americans--there's an Army brigade dedicated to domestic security in direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act that was repealed by the Military Commissions Act which was passed by our Congress. The surveillance of American citizens is now considered by Congress and our government to be essential to our domestic security.

The disconnect is in how they have been brainwashed to associate these anti-American and unconstitutional violations of our basic rights as being a result of the Obama administration.

Where were these guys when Bush and Cheney were dismantling the Constitution (with the assistance of many of the Democrats in Congress) and ramping up the assault on our civil liberties?

These militias should be aligned with the Left, but they are tools of the right wing. The Left ignores them at its peril. Every major revolution has been started by a small but dedicated group who were willing to fight and die for their beliefs.

9. There are some action items which could/would put a stop to it

and serve all the rest of us at the same time.

We could stop using the military as corporate enforcers in foreign nations. They are supposed to be for our defense only - not trotting around the globe killing people to make the world safe for cut-throat capitalism. From this single action (or non-action) most of what's wrong with this nation would easily fade away.

Create local jobs, in the hardest hit places, using local and not multinational companies. Improve local infrastructure and education. This would help with gang violence of the urban kind also. Really, if we're honest, these guys are just like a gang.

Repeal the Military Commissions Act - big duh moment, IMO. Do we really want that in our nation? I don't believe anyone on the left agrees with this kind of thing.

Help them to stop being so damn afraid - this fear invites authoritarianism, with its friends surveillance, false imprisonment, and arbitrary violence, to come in and quell it.

If the government acts aggressively (before the gangs/militias actually become aggressive) they will cause the very thing they want to prevent. You can't say "I don't want violence" and then act violently - think Ruby Ridge, etc. People won't believe you, because you are lying. They also won't believe that violence doesn't really work, because it's apparently working for you as a tool, you're using it.

I guess, OTOH, you could just crush them - though I believe it would create many more in the long run.

Because the government is allowing these groups to thrive, I have to believe that they think they can use them for their purposes at some point.

Violence begets violence, every time. Apparently, I was unclear - it happens. I hate to entertain the thought of your second point. Regardless of what the government (or the shadow/pseudo government) wants, I think we as people can apply pressure on them to behave properly, and weed out the bad actors within our own system. I don't accept disempowerment :)

Now they are going to start a revolution AFTER most of the damage is done to the Constitution? After the Patriot Act? After the demolition of the Habeas Corpus? After illegal wiretapping? Eight years AFTER the illegal invasion of Iraq they decide its not such a good thing? Granted they did not say in the video that they blamed Obama and Democrats particularly for the situation, but the timing is priceless.

Does he not realize that he is saying ver batum what the lefty peace activists said about the invasion of Iraq months before the invasion?

14. I knew this day would come

when a African American becomes POTUS, these types of groups would target and attempt to kill this African American regardless of his fundamental political values. I am mot suggesting these militant groups base value, is to kill anyone who is nonwhite and who holds the POTUS position, I am saying they will use whatever ideology that is in alignment with political dissent and try to use their military (No matter the size) to topple the government. Now I truly do believe these type of group will never become "Mainstream" and successfully complete their mission but they can create small pockets of rural living citizens that breath and adhere to this ideology. The deadly combination of low income, low education, limited employment, drugs (recreational use and manufacture for funding), quasi military and having too much time to spare, will cause limited localized incidents that will unfortunately produce violence and death.

If memory serves me correct, didn't the white house release a paper on the rise of such groups that was retreated or refuted? I will research and return.
