MM. It's hilarious to see Hannity, so in denial he just sticks his fingers in his ears. The FBI were called in to investigate the fraud in the sub-prime mortgage lending scandal. Many people bought homes which they could afford. What happened was their payments began to go up, and up. Some of the lenders (many had criminal backgrounds btw) even changed information on the forms, altering the salaries the borrowers had listed. There was so much fraud as MM says.
As for the Community Reinvestment Act that Hannity and the Repubs have hated since it was passed, what that did was to make it illegal for banks to refuse mortgages to minorities and the working poor. It was intended to end discrimination. And for 30 years, once banks had to lend money to QUALIFIED buyers, mostly minorities, it was successful as a majority of those borrowers DID pay off their loans.
But the rightwing still hates that bill, they are still racists and classists. In 1999 they tried to get it rescinded which would have made discrimination in the housing market, legal again. That's one of the main reasons why they hate ACORN. Because ACORN helped to make sure banks abided by that law. No surprise to see Hannity go all the way back to that bill to try to blame minorities (why doesn't he just say it, he despises minorities) for everything that just happened. The lies are just unbelievable.
Bush did pull the FBI off the sub-prime mortgage corruption investigation. Hannity is an idiot. But for far too long he and the rest of the Rightwig Noise Machine have gone unchallenged when they lie about these issues.
I saw 'Capitalism A Love Story' this week and it is amazing. I cried a lot, laughed a little. The audience loved it. Everyone should take a Republican relative to see it. I really think any rational Republican seeing that movie will have second thoughts about everything they've been told by Fox and Rush for so long.
