1. Oldest RA Thread
Hitler was an evil man. Palin is a quitter. She would have made a bad VP.

This reply isn't really about Hitler or Sarah Palin, but due to this website's posting restrictions, I can't reply to the thread I want to reply to, and I can't private message the person I want to. This is really a reply to the "There's an RA here that is like 50 years old..." thread, which is located at:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

I would like to ask the original poster, YellowRubberDuckie what university she attended. However, I can't private message her. Can someone please send her the following message to her, and send me back the responce?

"Hi, I noticed that you posted a thread about an RA that was 50 years old on DU. Which university was this at? I would like to know since I am currently choosing a university, and I am 27 and would like to be an RA. 27 is not quite 50, but it is a bit older than most RA applicants, so I would like to apply at whatever university employed this 50 year old. Thanks! :-)"

Thanks, and sorry that I had to post this here!

4. Why can't you ask her?
That thread is pretty old, itself, but certainly they have RAs at many universities all over the country and you really aren't that much older than most students... :-)

5. RA Thread
Thank you for replying. :-) I can't ask her because I have only posted about 20 times and can't send private messages yet. That's why for all of my previous posts, I just posted "interesting". lol The RA thread is the only reason I even registered for this site anyway.

But I can talk about politics in the time being. Our ecoonmy is in a bad condition. I hope it gets better! Does anyone agree? You do? Great!

That was easy.

But seriously, if someone could find out what university YellowRubberDuckie went to, that would be great.

9. A 27 YO RA? Preposterous! You are too old... too old to begin the training...
just kidding. pretty sure any college/university in the US would
not hesitate to take a 27 yo as an RA. I have no idea why you
are obsessing about the one yellowrubberduckie went to.

assuming RA stands for research assistant, a paid position offered
to graduate students while they matriculate (no I don't know why
they call it that). it could also be residence assistant, someone
paid to live in the dorms as a surrgate landlord, and who must
endure the daily sniveling and incessant mischief of dorm students.

the former usually pays more than it is worth, while the latter...
never enough.

12. Residence Assistant
The question was about a residence assistant, a.k.a. resident mentor, the one that lives in the dorms. Does everyone think 27 is too old or is it just fine?

14. 27 is just fine, but in my experience there are degree requirements
for quite a few of the job positions. I was an S-RA at my Alma mater and almost all the RA's had to have a 2yr degree, or more.

A good friend of mine after getting his BA applied for many Resident Assistant/Dorm manager/RA jobs and he would get turned down because of his age, and degree...they wanted Masters Degree's for Resident Assistants/Housing, which blew my mind away.

My buddy tried quite a few universities, and went to a RA seminar/job fain in Wisconsin to find work, and again, his age/no masters degree seemed to be the reason why he didn't find work in that field.

15. You're right, LOL.
Since I can't send one to you. She and I were friendly, back in the day (around the time of that thread), but I'm not sure if she's been around lately. I can check. :-)

And DU is definitely the best place on the internets to discuss politics. The people here are knowledgeable, plugged in, and often bring up news items that have yet to appear in the MSM. Also, DUers are the most compassionate folks on earth and, if you have a question, about schools, for example, they're very generous about sharing the knowledge that they have. And with the size of DU, that's quite a lot! Don't be afraid to ask questions... :-)

Welcome to DU, JordanSmith73! It's great to have you with us! :toast:

I'll let you know of I find YRD...

Hilarious in its many forms.

I think the original clip is from Tom Cruise's (anti-)Nazi movie. Does anyone know for sure?

18. I'm having trouble with the whole Sarah Palin book thing.
Who told her about books? Oh, wait, she reads all the newspapers. The Book Section! One of them must have mentioned books not actually written by the person named as author. It certainly won't present any moral qualms for her to claim to have written a book that she cannot recall a single quote from. We may get a reprise of my favorite author quote: Once when a reporter asked Charles Barkley about something he said in his autobiography, he said, "I was misquoted."
