Note: After you watch the above video make sure you read Cenk's new article at Huffington Post, The Problem With Obama's Speech. And then watch this - TYT: Did Obama Really Offer A Public Option?.

Summary: Cenk reacts to Obama's speech and gives the positives (more coverage, no denial for pre-existing conditions) and negatives (didn't draw a line in the sand on the public option, mandated coverage with no PO won't significantly reduce costs, not clear on what "choice" means, etc.). He also touches on the Republican 'rebuttal'.

2. Cenk, you got it right again.

Especially ( regarding the Senate/House Repubs)

" they aren't going to play ball!"

We've known that for some time now.

3. "he has to insist it's in the bill when the [GOP & ins industry] fight him tooth and nail"
I dig this point most of all. Like Cenk, I believe he "wants" public option. The GOP and insurance industry don't care what he "wants." And they will do everything in their considerable power to kill it.

And I'll never accept that they "couldn't" make Single Payer happen. But that is a topic for another day.

5. I think Cenk nailed it when he said it's aimed at conservatives at home
especially with the malpractice reform part. Imo, Obama has no intention of doing malpractice reform. He hasn't said one word about that this whole time, and he just throws it out there now? I think Howard Dean said it best when he said tort reform won't be part of the debate because Obama doesn't need a new enemy attacking it (meaning trial lawyers).

So the GOP in the audience know Obama didn't really intend tort reform, but republicans at home could hear him say that and think, maybe this guy isn't so bad...

6. You missed it
It was a masterful speech. But look at the new starting point

Drug Companies guaranteed extra Billions from the Gov
Insurance Companies guaranteed extra Billions in premiums from those who already think they cant afford it
Under-covered individuals offered coverage "at cost" - ooh, they get a benefit they pay for
Bankruptcy protection so business can get paid off even when they charge everything a patient has and more for treatment

No relief for the competitiveness in the world market problem - insurance still a cost of being an employer
No real market competition for private insurance because participation is limited to 10%
No reform in the system

And this is just the starting point?

Are the People not already sold-out?

12. i'm right there with cenk on this one...
and it almost makes me think a better option, rather than a limited public option that would only be available to 5 percent of citizens, would be a trigger that would open up a non-profit public option to EVERYONE that would kick in automatically if private insurance costs are not reduced over a few years. That would be better than this sliver of a public option that seems to be on the table now.

13. Great analysis.
Personally, I am disappointed in Obama's speech. He did an excellent job tooting the horns of private insurers and the reform blocking conservatives. But what true reform has Obama proposed?

Especially with the mandate. A mandate without a broad public option? Sure it's excellent that Obama has toppled some abuses such as denying coverage for preexisting conditions, or protecting individuals who become severely ill so they cannot be dropped from their insurers, but he in no way addressed a relevant public option.

A sliver, perhaps. For 5% of Americans. This reform bill has been watered down all to well by conservatives. Human health is not a business. It's a necessity.

Obama, ignore the whining of the manipulating conservatives. Address the complaints and needs of over 30 million Americans.

Great video.
