Barney Frank said at his town hall meeting what so desperately needed to be said all the way through this "debate". You cannot discuss with anger, you cannot reason with fear, you cannot converse with crazy. If people were to close their mouths and open their ears and their hearts, they would see how Lord Of The Flies their behavior has been. Everyone has a right to dissent. This is not dissent.

3. I spent five hours this morning...

...recording this. It's original. I designed it to be as cacophanous as the rude and angry town hall participants were. I was also looking for an excuse to use my theremin. I used it on one track with no effects and on the other track with a grain decimator on the Korg KP3 effects box.

Seriously, if they start up with the crazy bullshit, and you respond to these people with facts, and a well reasoned argument, it elevates their bullshit to the status of a counter argument. It gives this nonsensical crap, the illusion of legitimacy, and the bullshit just keeps coming, because you just can't argue with stupid...

However, if you shut them down with a hysterical aside, you clearly communicate, that they are simply too stupid to be taken seriously. They will of course, be offended that you have decided to be silly in the face of their dire warnings of impending national doom. However, if you stick to your guns and never giving them a serious response, they will eventually give up out of frustration, and or humiliation, while everyone around you has gotten a good laugh..

..this does nothing to "counter" what woman or what she said. Countering consists of showing the video, raw. Taking it and doing a bunch of silly, immature modifications and cuts to it only makes people laugh (in your case) or scratch their heads and wonder who put together such a goofy thing (as would be the case of the majority.)

This does nothing to "shut" anyone down, a a "hysterical aside." Again, just showing the raw video it the power. When the woman is mocked through silly devices it appears that her words and the reality is not sufficient to demonstrate her wackiness and wrongness therefore stupid video manipulation to make her look wacky are required.

Sure, it's fun for fun sake, but it's not useful from a political view and in fact could be harmful.

These guys don't really care what we say, or do, or edit in our video clips... because we will always just be "evil" in their eyes. No matter how well reasoned our responses are, or how cleverly we display the factual data, we will always be "wrong" because they cannot be swayed by reason.

I'm not saying that this guys video is on par with "Ow! My Balls" or "Asses of Fire" anything... but it is his way of artistically expressing himself... like that guy who does all though Photoshop images of the Bush Regime as "Lizard People"...

This video isn't going to sway anybody from that crazy line of thinking, (not even Steven Spielberg could pull that off) because their line of thinking does not allow them to be swayed...

This video isn't for them, it's for people like me... who think it's about time that sane people just started laughing these clowns right off the stage. The quickest way to dismiss all this lunacy, is to make it a punchline.

21. The reason I put this together is...

It's the idea that Barney Frank had when he asked "On what planet do you spend most of your time" and then followed it up with his dining room table comment. I framed this video in that light because these are people it is impossible to actually have a discussion with. They are so filled with anger, fear, confusion, lies or just blatant self-interest that they are getting to where they are not even worth the time to acknowledge. I think what Congressman Frank did was something that had needed to be done from the start. How can you have a conversation or a rational debate with someone who pulls out the term Nazi as soon as someone disagrees with them? How can you even take that person seriously from that point forward? They might as well be from a different planet for all it matters. They all chant the same slogans, talk from the same script...don't take my guns, government is evil, death panels, nazi, government takeover. The Republicans chant their mantra of government breaks everything it touches, then go ahead and prove the point by sabotaging real change over and over and over. Why does anyone even vote for these clowns anymore? Why ARE we the only country in the industrialized world to not have universal coverage? Why do people embrace spending trillions of dollars on an unnecessary war and then scream bloody murder if you want to spend money on taking care of citizens right here at home? I called it...I knew that if we started to spend on ourselves instead of spending to dictate to the rest of the world how to live, there would be an uprising against it from the right. What an incredible short-sighted and self-destructive attitude this is. THIS is why I tried to "alienate" these people. I wonder if they see themselves on TV and understand how angry, silly, vapid and thickheaded they appear to the rest of the world. The people I "alienate" in this video are ALL people that Barney Frank is referring to when he says "trying to have a conversation with you is like trying to argue with the dining room table."

Come on...Sarah Palin quits because she is a "lame duck"? Does she even know what the term means, because she wasn't. She is relying on the poor education of her supporters to squeak that little whopper through. How do you have a conversation with her? Or Betsy McCaughey, as John Stewart found out?

This is very, very good work. What did you record to, and what did you use?

40. To make this video, I used...

1) MacBook Pro with Garageband (just ordered Logic Express...it's got time-manipulation tools)
2) For the beats, I used a Korg Kaosillator processed through a Korg KP3 effects box and an Alesis SR-18, two alternating loops repeating
3) For the guitar sounds, I used the Kaosillator processed through the KP3
4) Two tracks were made with a Moog Etherwave theremin...one track unprocessed except for some echo and reverb, and the other passed through a grain decimator on the KP3.
5) The lead synth is actually a Kazooka electric kazoo passed though the KP3 (a very useful device indeed!)
6) The vocal parts were added by downloading the mp4 version of a YouTube video and extracting the audio.

I am not a trained musician...I don't play any instrument well enough for even a live performance. I am self-taught by virtue of a decent ear for music. This frees me from the constraints of training and gives me room to experiment with bizarre stuff.

The whole was rendered into an mp3 file. It's actually a 4-minute long tune that I imported into Sony Movie Studio, cut down to two minutes and then edited. I used Microsoft Paint to edit the images, not Photoshop. I have used Paint for nearly two decades, and there is a lot you can do with its simple tools.

The theme of the music is that of confused repetition and distorted overtones. I wanted it to reflect the disjointed drone coming from those who oppose health care reform not on its merits (because, like any bill, there must be questions asked, and there have been some very legitimate discussions about actual substantive issues), but those who oppose it based on the distortions and lies that have been promulgated by those with the most to lose if reform goes forward. I did not design this to be some juvenile prank, putting alien heads onto people, it was symbolic of those people with whom a rational discussion has become impossible, combined with Barney Frank's "what planet" comment. When someone tries to win an argument by using the terms "Hitler" or "Nazi", the argument has reached the point where further discussion is not worth it.
