DNC Goes All In: Takes On Birthers, Conservative "Mob" In New Web Ad

The Democratic National Committee released a notably aggressive web ad on Tuesday evening, accusing the Republican Party of being taken over by an angry mob of "birther" conspiracy theorists and disgruntled partisans.

The spot, titled "Enough of the Mob," is as engaged as the Democratic Party has been to date with what its own leadership has deemed a fringe element of the GOP. But, with boisterous protests routinely interrupting Democratic town hall events and dominating news coverage, one DNC official put it succinctly: "We aren't going to back down from this shit."

The spot is a minute long. And the DNC official didn't rule it being paired down to air on television. It includes a veritable greatest hits list of conservative attacks on Obama, looping it all together to make the case that "the right wing extremist Republican base" has overrun the GOP.

"They lost the election. They lost on the Recovery Act, the budget and children's health care," the script reads. "They've lost the confidence of the American people after eight years of failed policies that ruined our economy and cost millions of jobs."

"Now, desperate Republicans and their well-funded allies are organizing angry mobs - just like they did during the election. Their goal? Destroy President Obama and stop the change Americans voted for overwhelmingly in November."

The spot reflects the strategy employed by Democrats in the wake of recent disruptions at local town halls: to conflate multiple fringe elements and issues of the Republican Party with conservative opposition to the president's health care reform agenda. Though, in the case of the DNC ad, health care is hardly mentioned.

Perhaps more telling is how quickly the DNC and the Obama White House have moved to turn the anger of the crowds into a rallying point for proponents of reform. Throughout the afternoon on Tuesday, the DNC was alerting reporters to particularly outrageous moments at various town hall gatherings; notably protesters who made jokes at an event in Connecticut about Sen. Chris Dodd's (D-Conn.) newly diagnosed prostate cancer.

There is, of course, a template for this. During the late stages of the 2008 election, the Obama campaign effectively used the most inflammatory moments at rallies for Sen. John McCain, (R-Arizona) and Sarah Palin to define the Republican ticket.

1. nice ad. k&r
the irony is that these lower class, lower income (and probably jobless) mob groups would benefit tremendously from health care reform. instead, they shoot down democracy and don't even realize they are being sponsored (and fired up) by big pharma & health insurance LOBBYISTS! they are such ignorant, racist puppets they don't even know who is pulling their strings.

21. So true.
I was looking at a map of the states hardest hit by layoffs the recession and the majority of them are in the south. Which coincides with the same area where last weeks poll revealed the most people questioned the presidents citizenship. These are the people who would benefit the most from health care reform, yet they are distracted by this "birther" nonsense, fueled by racism to the point that they can't see they are working against their own interests.

18. On calling the RNC
If you have a Fax machine, enter the RNC's number and set the auto-dial callback feature to the maximum number of iterations. Most max out at 10-20 but some will continue to dial until the message is sent successfully. It used to drive me nuts at work when someone would accidentally try to send a Fax to my voice line because there is no easy way to contact the sender to get them to stop. Of course, in this case, don't stop regardless.

36. Don't be a moron.
We knew this was going to happen before it happened because documents from FreedomWorks, the lobbying group run by Dick Armey, outlining this exact strategy were leaked last week.

The RNC is now also fully supporting it.

If you want to debate the issue of health care reform, you are welcome to do so, even in the town halls. But you know you cannot win the debate, so your only remaining strategy is to stifle debate by disrupting any attempted public discussion of the issue. Let me say this very clearly: To stifle democratic debate is the antithesis of democracy.

Now crawl away back under your rock, freeper troll.

30. Bring it on, motherfuckers.
Really, no offense to seniors in general, but what's "the Mob's" plan? Attack me while I'm giving them CPR? Bitter old grouches are hardly intimidating to me.

You push us hard enough, Freepers will soon realize Democrat <> Pacifist.

34. Seriously, WHEN are you guys EVER going to let GO of this Cold War CRAP??
“Socialist!” “Comm’nist! Obama’s a Soshulist Comm’nist! ALL Democraps are COMM’NISTS!” “Stalinist!” “Obama’s a MARXIST!” “Lib’ruls = socialists = Democraps = Marxists = Leninists = COMM’NISTS! No worse than a turrurist . . . thur all the SAAAAMMME” (as he wags his wrinkled fist in the air)

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

I mean, in 2009? Seriously? What GIVES?

Let’s get past the fact that many of you have absolutely no idea what these terms actually mean or how they differentiate in definition and their specific place in history and economics. What I want to know is why are you still using these ridiculously outdated Evil Empire-era “burns” from the early to mid-80s? The words themselves really should have no emotional significance to anyone under the age of 45 at this point.

The U.S.S.R has long since dissolved into individual republics. Totalitarianism with the Communist mask died there with hardly a whimper. The Berlin Wall came down. Russia is now just another former superpower with its own problems and crumbling infrastructure. America’s largest creditor is, by definition, a repressive and somewhat still Totalitarian “Communist” nation that practices some aspects of western capitalism. They’re also one of our most massive trading partners (have been since the days of Prescott Bewsh), one that puts acidic junk in the stores many conservatives shop at.

It’s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that mixed economies with socialistic practices in Scandanavia, Canada and western Europe are doing a far better job of surviving the global economic downturn than America is. Their universal health care thrives to the benefit of their citizenry with very few major issues. No one gets thrown out of their homes or has their finances ruined for the crime of getting sick. Their college educations are covered, unlike the average American student who enters the work world multiple-thousands in debt out of the blocks. Their social safety nets are something only we can envy; far better than our 26-week less-than-poverty pittance.

Even America itself practices some forms of (gasp) socialism and only the most off-the-charts Bircher fascist would oppose it. Public transportation, Police, Fire and Water departments, libraries, the military, schools, road crews, waste treatment, social security, unemployment insurance (which Reagan once called “a pre-paid vacation for freeloaders” . .. charming guy :eyes: ) . . . we take all of these societal aspects for granted because we expect them to be there for us when we’re most in need.

Knowing all this, why do you Republicans adamantly refuse to let GO of the

RED MENACE

(well, besides the painfully obvious)??
