1. Too short, too ineffectual, and too dense for Republicans to
understand. His comments went right over their heads. His heart is in the right place, but this speech falls flat of making the point clear to the dullards of the world.

3. Could be, but I think that he did a decent job of getting the message
across. I think that it comes down to whether sarcasm is a good way of getting the message across. I have made sarcastic comments to people before, only to get a puzzled look and to have to explain that I was using sarcasm.

Anyway, enough about me, I think that DK makes 10 times more sense than anybody that I have ever heard in the last 10 years. His point is simple and brilliant really. The group of people that everybody is fighting for is not on their best interests. Private insurance companies are NOT our friends. Sometimes people can get caught up in fighting for a cause and not realize exactly what they are fighting for. Maybe this line of reasoning will stop some of the group think and get people to wake up.

11. +1, EuclideanOne
How can we think highly of a leach that does nothing but drain our blood? Many consumers are under the illusion that in their time of need health insurance companies will come to their rescue and be there for them. Nothing could be further from the truth. Of course millions of dollars spent on advertisements and lobbying efforts have gone far to foster this illusion. 1.4 million a day! You could convince many that the moon is made of green cheese by spending that much.

15. FDR used sarcasm very effectively against his
opponents. I saw an old film clip of one of his political speeches and it was absolutely brilliant. He made his point with fewer words and a rather mischievous smile, and there was no doubt that people "got it".

The phrase "people love their insurance companies" really brings it home better than a long speech filled with facts and figures, because NO ONE "loves their insurance companies". Dennis could have said more, but in this case "more would be less".

30. His comments went right over their heads
Indeed.

The 1st comment I read on the YouTube site was:

{/i}I'd rather have a choice of insurance companies or no insurance at all than be forced into a Government plan and have to pay for it. Don't you understand the concept of liberty?{/i}

Say whaaaaa...?

Who the hell feels like that? They obviously have never had to deal with a medical problem and an insurance company. Or are just some shill sent to spam YouTube.

This whole debate is stupid. We are dinosaurs when it comes to health care. I want the same plan Congress is on! At least that!

2. Dennis hits the nail on the head AGAIN!
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 09:23 AM by RoccoR5955
Why do they keep bashing him?
Is it because he works for WE THE PEOPLE, and not them, the corporations?
He always has, and I believe, always will!
We need more types like him in government.

4. The ONLY way that is ever goiong to happen is if
...we demand and achieve full public financing of political campaigns. Only THEN will our elected officials begin to work for US and not the corporations that shovel truckloads of cash into their campaign coffers. Only THEN will lobbyists' influence cease to undermine our wishes. Only THEN will we get our country back.

Only then.

6. That's the ugly truth
AND.... there's TOO MANY out there that would NEVER call out for public financing because they have some cloudy notion that we're already paying for such with our taxes. Any MORE to goverment would be yet another "tax", and the boogey-men of the Right/Corporate USA would make DAMNED sure that the half-wits were scared out of what's left of their wits with the spectre of sending yet MORE of their hard-earned bucks off for nothing.

12. Dennis has a message...
...that is a true danger to the status quo. I've even seen him mocked here on DU, which I find most puzzling. He is one of our very best and I find it sad that this country isn't evolved enough for someone like him.

28. Exactly, Rocco. Corporate propaganda does not get to DK.
It doesn't get to me or you either. We have to make sure that our other gov.reps. realize that we need government health care for everyone. I don't want to make a profit on the denial of care for the sick.

It's heartless greed, and it's not how a civilized people should live.

14. And this is the point
advocates of the status quo don't want you to know and remember. This is why Dennis is so dangerous. Dennis is a loose cannon on the ship of free insurance company profits.

Money for nothing! Hell yeah, if it was my insurance company I would want to keep my free money coming in.

We used to maufacture things in this country. Now we shuffle paper for profit.

22. Than it's about fucking time we elected real representatives of the people.
How about every DUer lobby for a new party. How about we elect Howard Dean for president, Bernie Sanders for VP, and Dennis Kucinich to replace Mr. Rogers in the senate. Now thats a ticket that progressive would support in a heart beat. So what the hell is the problem? We're still fascinated with the used car salesman we elected for president in November. We still think we won the election in November. Yeah, right!

23. Because he speaks the truth
in our current "democratic" system Congressman Kucinich will forever remain, to use a more appropriate parliamentary phrase, a back-bencher.
Doesn't he know? You have to sell your soul to the lobbyists and monied interests to "serve" the people. Oh, poor Kucinich he will never get it, him and his damnable conscience and soul.
