Sunday Show Roundup: No Bright Lines in the Sand

"As the health care debate heats up over the summer one of the central arguing points will be the possibility of creating a "public" or government-run insurance option as part of the reform bill. We take a look at how the early argument is shaping up and how important a public option seems to be to President Obama in today's Sunday Show Roundup.

More about not drawing bright lines in the sand.

It's not just for health care. It could carry over to other issues such as women's rights, gay rights.

MR. AXELROD: Well, first of all, I think that if we don't pass healthcare reform it's going to be a catastrophic problem for the country, not just the Democratic Party; for families, businesses and the country itself. Look, we believe strongly in, in a public choice; not one that's subsidized by the government, but one that will embrace the best practices, that will reduce healthcare costs and give people the best quality care. What the president said was illogical were the same people who say that the government is incompetent, the government can't run anything, the government shouldn't be involved in, in anything say, but we can't let that be one of the choices because it'll be an unfair advantage against the, against the insurance companies.
\

Not a government-run option? Fear of the right?

And no bright lines in the sand.

MR. AXELROD: Look, we have gotten a long way down the road by not drawing bright lines in the sand, other than on the major points, which is that we can't add to the deficit with this healthcare reform, so it has to be paid fore, it has to reduce costs, and we want to make sure that all Americans have a quality, affordable health care. Those are the, those are the things that have to be accomplished. People have different ideas. We're willing to listen to those ideas. But that's where we're--that--those are the imperatives that we have to sell.

So I am getting confused on which are major points that we do draw those lines about.

in many cases preventing it. This concern over a level playing field was not so important when govt. intervened and gave no bid contracts to the previous administrations biggest contributers. Continuing with similar types of comments means that when all is said and done, our elected officials are once again intervening for their friends " Big Corporate Insurance and Pharma industries" to essentially prevent a level playing field. Sorry, but I will not entertain chaos, and bulling as talking points. Dr. Dean has done all the heavy lifting for these stooges and they continue to drop the ball.

2. I wonder if there's a connection between Dean support and other Dem nonsupport
Howard Dean has been treated horribly by certain factions of Dems - Rahm, Carville, DLC in general)

Dr. Dean supports public insurance, DLC types do not

It's obvious why corporate insurance is against it. Many who call themselves Dems are against it because of corp. lobbying against it. But I wonder if some other Dems in high places also refuse to support it because of that DLC power play against Howard Dean. They don't want him to be victorious in anything apparently, and when he is (Obama winning the election) they refuse to credit him with his big part in it.

4. I am sick of the corporate sponsored ConservaDems
If they want to act like Repukes go and join the Repukes and see if you get re-elected. It seems to me the the 40 Repuke Senators has all the control. Grow a pair and stand up for the American people or we will vote you out starting in the 2010 primaries

5. We, the people, have to draw the line in the sand
If the Democrats are no better than the Republicans, then, perhaps we need the real thing, not Republican Lite. Health care reform with no real reform and public money spewing into private insurance companies will mean the end of the Democrats in 2010!

7. As every hour passes it becomes clearer that O is
searching for a solution that favors the insurance industry; One he can call a public option but which has no resemblance to one. He knows the people of this country overwhelmingly wants a government run public option, and that is something the DLC the insurance industry and the DINO's are fighting mightily against. Beware the AARP on this as they are nothing but a pug echo chamber and a big insurance thug in its own right; Who brought us privatized medicare and that has proven to be a total unmitigated disaster of bottom line greed. So watch out for a plan that is written by the insurance industry being called an Orwellian "public option".

8. The best health care in the world ?
Politician$ and Profit Machine$ drive this Nation. Change will only come from the bottom up, we are the change we voted for. Because of pure greed, there's no value in people and their quality of life. Take cancer. In four years the cost of chemo has gone up 400%. How many cancer treatments have cured in comparison to killed ? I read where the largest health care corporation in America is buying the largest funeral corporation in America. At the end of the day, the status quo is all about the love of money. When 72% of Americans' want single payer, public option and the Politician$ say they don't have the votes, clearly the Profit Machine$ are in control of those votes. When your home becomes a mountaintop removal mine site, clearly the Politician$ and the Profit Machine$ are the one's who made those rules, laws and decisions. Just because we voted for change doesn't mean it's going to happen. We may not have $ 1.4 million to lobby congress daily like the health care industry but we do have a voice http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62
