Cenk talks about Bill Maher's New Rules segment last Friday and agrees. Cenk and Bill nail it again.

1. K & R.
I haven't seen one good argument against Bill's dead on rant. I've seen personal attacks and dismissive one-liners, but no substantive debunking of his awesome points.

4. So far I have yet to see a good argument either
I am still waiting though, I very much doubt there will be one.

16. Sadly the only way he will EVER be proven wrong on this issue is ...
If democrats;

-reinstate Glass-Steagal
-Push single-payer as ONLY means of reform
-No more tax-cuts for people earning six figures
-mandatory ratio of electric cars produced to gasoline (electric being, by law, greater number)
-Anti-involvement of private contractors/companies in war (other than munitions supply)
-Gun laws; no ban but one that enforces a MAXIMUM amount of guns one person can own.
-Let gays be recognized by the state (not churches) as a union in marriage -which is the only thing they're protesting for.
-Separate Big Business, Corporate interests, and the Private Sector from O-U-R GOVERNMENT!

The above are ideas that would greatly improve our country; ideas Democrats have rode into the whitehouse on but then never delivered; sadly I think we're all hearing the same old song.

There's no such thing as a Liberal or Progressive Democrat anymore! Any true Liberal or Progressive running for office is almost forced to carry an "independent" title. Then our society laughs at them. Calls them crazy, or idiots. The same people our society regards as crazy and idiotic are the same people that want to adopt the major capitalistic, social, governmental, and civil policies that work so much better for almost every other industrialized country.

My prediction? THAT will be the next Lincoln, or even the next George Washington. The guy (or gal) that can get us out of this intellectually stifling argument that is the American Conservative "movement" and prove we can be on top again by ENFORCING the legislation this country NEEDS and not the legislation the upper percentile has always forced upon us.

17. The only problem is that NONE of those things will happen without campaign finance reform.
That and strict laws to prevent Congressmen from trying to change laws that benefit the private sector in order to retire from public service to a fat paycheck.

18. I know! I'm still amazed it's almost a total free-for-all.
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 01:08 AM by Liberal_Christian
A politician will get "arrested" for accepting a bribe for a specific reason but he's allowed to get all the "random donations" in kickbacks that he/she wants.

Still; many from that list of much needed legislation could be passed without campaign reform.

7. Precisely!
The same shitheads that changed Georgies diapers for eight years are still taking up space in Congress. Nader, Kucinich and Chomsky ARE Liberals and ARE Progressives. The majority of the SHIT that inhabits our Capitol is not.

PS FUCK Meghan McCain! Typical wingnut crybaby.

8. There has only been one party with two heads for a long time now.
What took you so long to recognize you are being played?

10. Just so you know, I voted for Obama...
as he was the best offered. I would prefer Dennis Kucinich as he seems to me to be the best democrate that is still not part of the one party.
Just because I realize whats going on doesnt mean I dont want the democatic party to take back its rightful place as a champion of the people.
I am very much against the right-leaning dem movement that has taken over the main party in case you havent noticed that yet...I have.

12. Wrong question.
But if you want to go with that style of framing, what took so long for a popular media figure like Bill Maher to so concisely and beautifully articulate the point?

At any rate, THAT is why the video has become so popular.

Can you imagine Cenk squaring off with John Bolton or Frank Luntz?

19. Great idea, I hope those two get together soon and keep this discussion alive
What about Cenk having his own show on MSNBC and being able to invite whoever he wants?

That would be awesome...!
