As Think Progress noted, despite Fox’s whining about ABC’s upcoming special on health care reform which will include a town hall conducted in the White House, it turns out that when George W. Bush was President, Fox did exactly what they are accusing ABC of.

Democrats control Congress and the White House. Its way past time to reign in control of the hate speech that Fox promotes. I am not saying that it should be a priority right now with the myriad of things going on in the country however, sometime over the next 8 years of the Obama Presidency it must be addressed and fixed once and for all or else we have no one to blame but ourselves.

But everything I see has me discouraged that hate speech will be addressed. Despite being about nothing but lies, distortions and propaganda; Fox News is still treated just like a real new organization by our government officials. President Obama is the only official to ever call them on their crap at all, it appears. And the AM Radio talking heads can promote the most bizarre conspiracy theory, racism, misogyny, and hate (even violence) and all anyone ever screams is that they have "free speech". So they go merrily along doing the equivalent of screaming fire in every theater they come across.

I agree with you that something needs to be done or our country will always be undermined by foolishness and rage. But I absolutely can't imagine anyone ever doing anything to rescue our citizens from this. And the harm it does to individual people is terrible; I see what listening to this does to people first hand as a southerner, it isn't pleasant. People become willing to give away the possibility of a good job, of health care, of being able to afford an education for their kids, of being able to retire in some comfort; they give away all this because these propaganda masters convince them to vote against their best interests with their lies.
