MSNBC - 10 June 2009: Holocaust Museum Shooter Popular On Free Republic.

"And David, the Huffington Post is now saying that this suspect James W. Von Brunn was on various public forums posting his thoughts, questioning President Barack Obama's origin of birth. He actually, they say, had a post under his name and it was pulled today from the conservative website Free Republic. That they've since taken it down as a result, I'm assuming, of the shooting..."

into the American Nazi Party. That these criminals expose their terroristic intentions without a response from law enforcement is disturbing. Making terroristic threats is an indictable offense.
The dilemma is: Do we want these nuts where we can see them or do we want them hiding in the shadows?
That right wing media promotes, foments and reinforces this hatred for profit is a reflection on the flaws in an unfettered free market. Promoting violence for profit is legal because it's for profit.

I'm still a member of Peace Fresno, from Fresno CA. but now live in another state.

Fresno is very conservative, but there are still progressive people who live there.

A group of people (mostly all strangers to each other) gatthered at a busy intersecton on the corner a week after 9/11 happened to advocate non-violence, and continued every Friday and within a month formed Peace Fresno.. we were joined by people of various background but in the early months especially by middle eastern people.

I joined shortly before US started bombing Afganistan. "First to die in war is Truth" also "first to die in war, Woman and Children". We had on average 10-20 people out there.. but consistantly there was at least 10.

When Peace Fresno was formed and able to hold meetings at Center for non-violence, we where able to use their # for our membership and website.

Right away we had death Theats.. and every Friday you knew that there could be a crazy who could commit violence.

Freepers began protesting us after a couple months on another corner.. so I could see who these "Freepers" where... every Sun I would check their site to see the hate and lies they posted. So much bravado, yet mostly lies.. there were very pathetic looking people and the site was their way to feel powerful.... yet we knew it only takes one wacko. What made it worse was the only talk radio station supported them. and also the Mayor Alan Autry (played Bubba in the Heat of the Night) and a councilman Jerry Duncan would often stop by and shake their hands. He emailed another council person "I wish we had a dirty bomb to kill these liberals" and another councilperson responded. "Wait till Police Chief Dyer gets here, he'll put a cap in em".

What makes the "hate groups" worse, is that many (not all) in law-enforcement are of like mind and don't curb these people's hate and threats.


The local talk (hate) radio station said on air "Someone should take these people out" meaning Peace Fresno. and another time "I wish someone would bomb the local ACLU office". Fresno didn't have one at the time. They called Free Republic "True Patriots" "Heroes".


And they had many names for Peace Fresno they called us Jew haters. Saddam lovers. Troop Haters.
We often had people scream and yell at us.. especially young men.
and on several occasion they would park their car or truck and confront the men yelling and scream. I on time had a guy scream at me with his spit hitting my face. But we all stayed strong. I found out it take smuch more courage to be non-violent than violent.

If you saw these local Free Republicans,, especially the man who started it. You could go up to them and say "boo" and the would run away....but the hate and advocating violence was constant.. and when screen prints were sent to local law enforcement includeing FBI nothing happened.
Instead, they sent in a deputy sheriff to spy on Peace Fresno.

Barry Goldwater was conservative.
