MSNBC Countdown -18 May 2009: Rev. C. Welton Gaddy: shameful Bush Admin religious crusade posture.

KEITH: What does Bible actually say about war and about Jesus' words on that subject?

REV. GADDY: "It says different things at different times... The Bible spans thousands of years and has different kinds of literature and you can go in the Bible and find pretty much what you want to be said on any subject. I think what you have to do is look at the whole sweep of the Bible's message and what you find is instruction to treat God as God, to treat government as government and to treat other people with dignity and respect.

Those scripture passages on those memos were not efforts to explore Biblical truth. They were efforts to use that which is Holy to endow with sanctity to endow
a political decision that was questionable at best and an invasion in a nation that was based on lies. If you want to be religious you go not to quoting scripture, you act like the scripture says to act."

3. THANKS for posting this - his commentary was excellent!!
Now that's the way to approach the Bible! Gaddy should be a regular consultant for MSNBC whenever there are biblical questions, then perhaps he'll catch on with the other networks. It would take a really long time to balance out lo those many years of having Falwell and other fundamentalists talking heads touted as "experts" in all matters religious.

What he had to say was not only a breath of fresh air, but he gave this story the exact perspective needed. He didn't mince words when he pointed out Rumsfeld's blasphemous, craven misuse of scripture to justify what God would be against.

FYI for those who didn't realize, Welton Gaddy hosts a weekly show on Air America.

Thanks again, Hissy!
