MSNBC Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - May 8, 2009: Keith discusses with Jonathan Alter Dick Cheney's advice on the future of the GOP to not moderate. Alter's response: "This is a shrinking party. It is a white, old, poorly educated regional party. Toward the end, Olbermann responds to the accusations about Pelosi knowing of the Bush administration torture tactics. "When are Republicans going to realize this in not first about party. It is about the traducing of our national character, the selling out of our principles in what was a phony, ineffective pretense of protecting those principles. If a Democrat is also culpable, then they can go to hell, too."

2. Torture is crime, regardless of party affiliation. Still, I wonder how many people are going to be
disappointed when no Democrat is prosecuted for Bush officials' approval of torture?

Seems Olbermann is throwing the Repub's argument back at them.

5. "beyond a couple "bad apples""
As long as somebody is prosecuted, and it's pretty clear who the targets should be.

7. They already have, Private Lindle England and Sergeant Graener
the rest of this is just a nice set of smoke and mirrors...

This is our two tier justice system... there is the justice for the worker bees, and the justice for the well connected DC insiders.

Yep, go ahead and call me cynical.

11. i don't think it's cynical... it's how it is, and it make me sick. and i feel as if we can't do
anything. our local station did a story about how once a ny pol is elected, it is nearly impossible to unseat them and i wonder how hard it is to unseat a us pol. they keep getting elected no matter how bad they are. does no one pay any attention to what they are doing!! they all work for their corporate sponsors while we just twist in the wind.

9. A couple of enlisted soldiers were convicted.
A general was busted.

What do you want, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and their lawyers to be indicted, tried, and convicted of crimes against humanity. I mean, what kind of country would we be if we actually made the people who made the decisions and gave the orders responsible for their crimes?

And if Pelosi knew, she can go, also. If I recall, you can not legally classify something simply to hide a crime. If she knew that a crime was being committed, she has a responsibility to say something, even if it does mean her career.

Interview with U.N. Torture Official Manfred Novak

Earlier this week, I interviewed Manfred Nowak, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture, regarding America's obligations under its treaties and international law to investigate and prosecute allegations of torture and provide legal remedies for torture victims to have their day in court. The podcast recording, and background on these issues, is here. Following is the transcript of the interview:

This will cost the tax payers a good chunk of change in restitution to tortured victims of the Bush Administration insanity.

14. Go KO... There Are Many In MY Circle Of Friends Who Are Paying MUCH More
attention to this issue. At first they were saying "give Obama & DOJ time" but I now have come to see this as an equal opportunity operation. It now makes a LOT MORE sense why this thing isn't getting investigated, or why there is foot dragging. I think we will also soon see the names of DIFI & Rockefeller rising to the top. There may be many more too!

For such a long time I've thought "we the people" have been ignored by our representatives and they only do their "own" thing. I know I recently wrote BOTH my Senators about my credit card interest being raised when Chase bought WaMu. I have NEVER been late, and ALWAYS paid more than the required payment... so I get penalized! Also contacted my Congressional Representative... NOT ONE of them have even acknowledged my inquiries!!

I'm SICK OF IT!! It was supposed to be different now!!

It is also about OUR philosophy.

If we also put party ahead of country and excuse those who are culpable because they have a D behind their name, then WE are selling our country downt the river.

And, yes, we will be attacked relentlessly.

It frightens people to see others stand by their principles.

All you have to do is look at who has been under electronic surveillance without the necessity of a warrant to assume you might have been overheard yourself.

32. Let them all burn, if they had a hand in it.
But first, we need to get people on board with prosecution. Polls are trending toward people not wanting to prosecute. Righties are winning the P.R. war, especially with the ridiculous talking point of "we do this to our own soldiers, therefore it's not torture" crap.

We have to start debunking these lies.
