1. I can't believe with all the issues on our plate, how this cut through the noise

Not judging it, just an interesting notion on how this story received so much attention and got folks so involved. It is really a non-story but wondering what people's thoughts are on why it got SO much play. Is this the 'lipstick on a pig' thing where it just is so 'different' and 'out there' that it draws interest - like Side Shows of circus days - or is there a real issue that is drawing people in. btw, good points taken on your content, on both Miss CA and Miss PH

Miss California's answer about "opposite marriage" was so incredibly clumsy and inarticulate. NOBODY who had advance knowledge of the question would give such a boneheaded answer.

She was clearly flustered. People don't cheat to make themselves look stupid and lose the contest. That theory doesn't make sense.

I watched her response. She was on the right track until all of a sudden, her personal opinion mattered the most. She lost because her answer was, on the generous side, probably half correct. Given a politically loaded question seems a test of a candidate's (political?) intelligence. Doesn't the title of MS USA carry goodwill responsibilities? States VOTE to allow or ban same sex marriage and the majority wins. All you are entitled to is a voice and a vote. In the case of this pageant, it seems that the majority voted against her views on the issue. She should have known better. But then if she has any political aspirations then maybe the repugs are watching....
